| Dear Colleague: Do you schedule staff development workshops for your school district or region? If so, we think you will find the opportunities described below very useful. Are you concerned about students academic achievement? Todays families are facing enormous challenges in raising their children. Many parents, with busy and stressful lives, spend little time in positive interaction with their children. At the same time, research indicates that family involvement in childrens learning is a critical factor in building academic success. What can you do? Most families are willing to spend more time helping their children learn but only if they realize its importance and if they are SHOWN how to help and given appropriate guidance and encouragement. Our workshops can help you in this process. Would you like to train teachers, administrators, and parent volunteers to encourage the participation of families in their childrens learning? We provide two very popular workshops that will enable you to train a complete family involvement team (with a discount if you schedule two workshops by the same consultant on consecutive days). If you wish, you may team up with a neighboring school district or educational service center and share costs. Each workshop is an active hands-on learning experience, with practical ideas that you can teach families to use at home without expensive materials and a BIG manual and book for workshop participants. There is lively interaction and sharing of ideas. Short videos help to illustrate the subject matter. Make Reading Fun! This workshop offers a detailed plan for family reading and book-sharing using activities that make reading enjoyable for both adults and children. Handout masters and transparencies in Spanish are available; also two videos in English and one in Spanish. Make Reading Fun! gave me information I can use right away. Every minute was well spent. Sue Parizo, Title 1 Teacher, Bennington, VT I really enjoyed the workshop!
