What a glorious weekend! It was supposed to be rainy, so I had planned a few quilting projects, and of course, as usual on the weekends, some house cleaning. Well that didn't work, as the sun kept popping out and drawing me out of the house onto the deck! Taylor, Nick and Claire (my friend Donna's youngest) wanted to swim and were in the water all day. Only to get out and either fish or EAT! Talk about bottomless pits!
After lunch,we went rollerblading in the park, and played on the playground. I just pushed them on the merry-go-round, as I thought I would lose my lunch just watching them! Around 2:00 Michael decided to meet Mike in Turtle Lake to pick up a truckbox and take him his snowmobile. (You know those Minnesotans, prepared for snow at a moment's notice!) I was going to ride along and hit the fabulous quilt store they have there, until I saw it closed at 3. As it turns out, I'm glad we didn't go along because Michael and Mike were in the paths of storms and tornadoes the whole way! Michael tried calling us at home to warn us tornadoes were headed our way, but we had decided to take a canoe trip because it was still gorgeous at our house. We were having fun canoeing, jumping off swimming, and exploring the islands. (Gus rousted up what I think was a raccoon. All I heard was hissing and snarling before I called him over. I just prayed it wasn't a bear cub.) But we finally made it back home when the sky started getting dark, and we got Michael's message. Only to lose power for an hour and sit in the corner of our kitchen. Quite the adventure, but it all turned out ok. I like daytime storms, but that's carrying it a bit far...
On Sunday after church, we headed up to my friend Lori's house for Michael to give her an appraisal on a side job for one of her neighbors on Cable Lake. Lori, her wonderful husband Collin, and sweet daughter Rachael, treated us to some cocktails and snacks on a beautiful pontoon ride around their lake. It was so warm and beautiful out, that the kids jumped off at one the sandbars in their clothes and swam for a while. We were having so much fun, we didn't get home until 8:00 pm! Thanks Lori, Collin and Rachael - we had a blast! (Unfortunately, there will be no pictures of our pontoon ride. Taylor dropped her camera in the river. We are hoping after it dries out it will still work.)
It was hard to get the kids to settle down and sleep at night, as they are starting summer school today and were pretty nervous. They don't know the Winter School or any of the local kids, but they had wanted to sign up. We'll let you know how it goes... |
