Well, it's been a while since I've put in a new entry. Probably because life has just been too blasted hot to do anything!!!! Last Saturday we hung out on the pontoon all day. It was too hot to do anything else, and unfortunately there wasn't much relief on the river. But we jumped off and swam, had some cold beverages and snacks. No one felt like cooking, so we've become the family that specializes in sandwiches, cereal or pizzas. Poor Nick was fighting a sinus thing all week, and ended up falling asleep on the pontoon for a while. You know he's sick when he's rather sleep than, well ... anything. My boy has NEVER liked sleeping since the day he was born! But I digress.
Sunday brought more heat and some bad news. Our boy Matt, (Mike's best friend), his Dad passed away Saturday night. He was diagnosed with cancer in February and it took him fast. So, we packed up the kids and headed down to Fredonia on Wednesday/Thursday. Dan's eulogy was amazing, as was he. He learned in life what most of us strive for - contentedness. With life, with his family, with everything. We didn't know Dan that well, but we do know Matt and that speaks volumes. Matt's one of the best human beings you will ever meet, as some of you know. He is now married to a wonderful woman and they are expecting their first child in January. In fact, the Baby Kunz link on our home page is theirs. So if you would all take the time to say a prayer for Matt and his family, they could sure use it. Many tough days are ahead of them.
And with any bad situation, there is some good. Taylor and Nick got to enjoy being with their nephew and our ADORABLE grandson Mikey, as well as Auntie Bonnie, Uncle Dan and cousins Kurt, Kari, Tracy and Riley. They offered to watch the kids while we were down, and what a blessing that was. Thanks also to my bro Eric, for dropping the kids off by them. Having a big family certainly has it's advantages! The kids had fun and we were able to see some family and most of the deer hunting crew. What a great group of guys. Nick is totally into fishing with Uncle Dan and Kurt at their pond. A catch seems to be almost guaranteed and that is Nick's kind of fishing. None of this "waiting game" and "patience" philosophy. Taylor was great with Mikey and Riley and she looks forward to when she can open her "babysitting business" in Ojibwa. As usual, much thanks to my Mom for putting us up at a moments notice. You're the best Mom, we truly mean it. We love you.
So now we're home again. It's Fair time in the office and I've been putting in some extra hours to keep my head above water. Poor Michael has been sweating it out in this heat, and by the time we get home, he's so hot he wants all the fans on, and I'm not quite thawed out after sitting in air conditioning all day. I know, I know, you all feel very bad for me and who can blame you? But - it's the cross I bear. :-) You'll be glad to know that Michael wins. But only because the kids side with him. hmpf.
Well, that's it. We've no big plans for the weekend, other than normal household chores, playing on the river, working on Fair exhibits and church. But before you go, take a look at the latest photo page. Thanks to sister Bonz, I have more to add!
I will leave you with this message from Dan's funeral service, "Worry never, Pray always". God bless you all. |
