Here come the dog days of summer...
(and school shopping   ...yuck )
Only one week left and we're in August already. The summer just goes too fast.  Thank goodness for the break in weather.  Now THIS is more like it.  I'm a 70's and sunny kind of gal!

This weekend in North Carolina, Michael's niece and Nick's godmother, Michelle Bogenberger, tied the knot to the love of her life, TJ Chester.  From what we understand, it was a beautiful, intimate wedding.  We were sad we couldn't go down for the wedding, but sister Kathy shared some lovely photos with us via email.  I've put a few of the pictures on the website.  It looks like a great time was had by all.  Especially on the fire engine!

We've been keeping busy here at the Stray-D lodge.  Last weekend was still HOT, so we hung out on the river, AGAIN, played lots of Cribbage and Scrabble, and drank lots of water and tea.  This week, we've been busy volunteering at the Fairgrounds, as the Fair is only one week away!  The kids helped the judges with the Educational Fair portion, worked on the grounds by planting flowers, weeding beds, moving bleachers, cleaning pens, and much more.  Of course they had to play in between chores with their buddies.  They were both so tired last night that they actually fell asleep right away without getting up 5 times each for a drink, or a question to ask, etc.  Michael is working with other 4-H Dads and finishing up the new handicap accessible bathrooms!  Woohoo - Sawyer County is moving up in the world.  I'm helping out anywhere and everywhere they need me.  You know the saying "many hands make light work".

This weekend is Michael's family reunion in the Dells.  Always a good time, but I'm nervous.  It's NEVER been less than 90 degrees on the reunion weekend.  Does this mean that the awful heat will come back????  Say it ain't so.  On Sunday we hope to be back to enjoy Radisson's HarvestFest.  It's a big street party, parade, baseball games, etc. and the carnival this year looks fantastic.  The kids are pumped, but I get nauseaus just looking at the Egg Beater ride.  burp.

For those of you who have been asking, I've received Nick's football schedule.  He first practice is August 20th running every Saturday until October 8th.  As usual, he will play from 10-Noon. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?????  Why do I get the awful feeling Nick's team will probably do better than the Packers this year.  Sigh.  But anyhow, you are all welcome to come visit us during this time (or any time for that matter).  Nick would love to have an audience.  Then we can take an autumn cruise down river, grill out, listen to the loons...doesn't that sound like heaven?  Oooh, I can't wait.  And if I remember correctly, the grouse population is supposed to be on the upswing, so double bonus!  Throw in a little hunting and we're in Redneck Heaven.

So there you have it.  I've entered 4 of my quilts this year, but only have 2 finished, so I have much work to do.  And in addition to our usual entries, the kids and I decided to enter baked goods as well.  We all enjoy baking, and this year Hershey's is sponsoring a contest, so all 3 of us said "what the heck" and we entered it.  You have to do a recipe with a 1/4 cup of Hershey's cocoa in it.  I'm doing a cake, Taylor's doing some brownies or bars and Nick's doing cookies.  We'll let you know who wins!  (There's cash involved here, it's gonna be brutal)
;-)

Love to all ~
