School Pictures
It's quite different from schools in Canada. For one thing, it's a lot bigger. Three main school-ish buildings, plus gym(it's own BUILDING, for crying out loud), guys changerooms(defined by sport- ie tennis, basketball, volleyball, etc) and girls changerooms(same as the guys), pool, and butsu-jou(something like that- it's the martial art something hall). I think that's it for buildings. And the buildings are rather large- two of the main buildings are four stories, and the third has three. Instead of classrooms on both sides of the hall, it's one class and a hallway. So you can look out the windows while you walk down the hallway and wonder whose bright idea it was to open EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. *bitter* *and cold* One of the four story buildings isn't acutal homeroom-classrooms, it's basically everything else- office(s), library, teachers room, computer rooms, chemistry lab, etc. The only western-style toilet is also in this building.
If the pictures aren't showing up, keep refreshing until they do. Or just click the blank spaces- all the pictures are linked ot the larger forms.
This is how we sit in assemblies- by grade, then class, and guys sit at the front, then the girls, and where in there you sit is designated by your last name(by the Japanese alphabet, to boot, so I'm somewhere in the middle of the girls, instead of the front)
The homeroom teachers prowl up and down before the assembly actually starts to check that everyone is there, and to make sure everyone's uniform is right- no jewelry, bows on, shirts tucked in, etc.
This is the back of the front building, where the offices, library, etc are. This was taken at the school festival in September, that's why there's a food booth down there, and people not in uniform. Taken from one of the two bridge/hallways between the three buildings- you can see the other one on the right of the picture.
Also from the school festival- this is Morgan's class, 2-1, doing a "Native American Dance". No more comments on that, due to excessive political discussions about this topic that have already been had.
But to explain WHY they are doing a dance- at the school festival, every class has to present something suring the festival. Some classes do booth-like things in their classroom, like arcade/festival games, or a haunted house, or whatever. Some classes do presentations- 2-1 did their dance, my class(1-2) did a play, 3-5 did a Sailor Moon themed skit(complete with Tuxedo Kamen and cross dressing guys in sailor suits), and so on. Some classes do food, etc etc. The non-sports clubs have their own stuff, too.
Another classes presentation, in the gym and dark so the picture didn't turn out well- but it was really good, it was a third year class, all in unison, some people on the floor in front of the stage. Really cool to watch.
Said class gathering for a picture afterwards.
The girls on the left are my classmates- the others are their friends, I'm guessing. And yes, nearly everyone in Japan poses with their fingers in a "V" for pictures.
This is Kou-chan, the class president, waiting out side of the haunted house. And no, I don't know his full name. That's what they told me to call him at the beginning of the year... Go figure.
This is the girl ushering people into the haunted house.
My classmates- Mimi, Asuka, and Mao, from left to right.
Mao and Asuka again.
People milling around before the assembly when the U-Hill students were here.
