Medicine Wheel Vision Quest
It started to sprinkle lightly for a couple of hours and I lay there in my sleeping bag listening to the water falling off the rocks into the stream and the birds chirping in the background. The sky began to clear up with the sun peeking through the trees so, I decided to venture out and explore the area for a while. This quest is much different than my last one as it was not so much to stay in the circle as to experience the surroundings, gather fire wood, and get in touch with nature in a way I never have before.( Last year was a traditional Vision Quest which I stayed in the circle mostly.) Around 5:30 gathering the wood I placed them in the circle of rocks and than started a fire with a special piece of wood like a starter stick that you can purchase at the store. A friend of mine Martin supplied me with several pieces. My friend the Crow showed up this evening when I was enjoying the fire with my mind at peace reflecting on the days events. As the fire reached up into the sky with flames leaping, dancing, and flashing in my eyes my thoughts were on Great Spirit. I am so happy to be out in nature!!!! more than sitting at home watching TV or sitting at the computer. The peace and serenity is super as I have a running stream with little water falls that make the most delightful sounds. That evening I built a fire to dry my pants for I had fallen into the icy cold streams I was crossing it when the end of my walking stick broke on the end. The crow came to visit, as I watched the flames of the fire the evening fell and the gray dreary sky darkened. Standing up facing the west, out of the darkness my eyes caught a glimpse of light in the trees which at first I thought was a pair of eyes. To my amazement it was fire-flies glowing and blinking in the darkness. I thought to myself boy they are even out in this cold weather. The fire-flies looked like shining fairies dancing through the deep darkness of the woods. I danced, sang, and listened to the crackling fire for a couple of hours with the sound of the stream in the background. It was getting late so, I laid down in my sleeping bag drifted off to Dreamland!!! Day 1 was over!
