Official Kittyville Hat

This is my first knitted project that wasn't a scarf or some other rectangular shape. I decided that whatever I needed to know to make this pattern I could learn as I went along. I had a little stress casting on with the circular needles, as I use a cable cast on which is quite tight. I almost couldn't get it to stretch all the way round, but once I got past the first row I was fine. And I have now discovered I love circular needles! I can even handle double-pointed needles, which I thought, at first, were very scary. I found the pattern in Debbie Stoller's Stitch 'N Bitch: The Knitter's Handbook, but you can also find it online here.

Nice beanie, thug
I liked the beanie ok even before I put ears and earflaps on. However, P thinks it makes me look like a thug, so I guess I won't be making any more to wear unembellished. Oh, and I suck at taking photos of myself.

Pom pom making is not my forte
When it came time to make the pom poms thing went a little crazy. I sat winding wool around two pieces of cardboard for about an hour. Apparently though, my card was too thin, and as soon as I started cutting it ripped. This is what was left of my pom pom. As frustrated as I was, it was actually a blessing in disguise. I cut the circles way too big. It would have been like having tennis balls hanging off my head.

My beautiful Nanna modelling my hat

Ta da! The hat is finally complete. Of course it looks much cuter on my Nanna than it does on me, but I'll forgive her. She can't help being the sweetest, cuddliest Nanna in the whole world!
