Edwina Ballerina Edwina Ballerina was made for Loobylu's November Month of Softies. The theme was "The Accessorised Elephant", and the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to make a ballerina elephant. I decided I would make a sample out of calico first (I once bought 5 metres - what was I thinking?!), to see how it would work before starting the real thing. Of course, I forgot to add seam allowances, as I often do. ![]() I then cut out the pieces (with seam allowances), and started to stitch and stuff. One of the most challenging things was sewing the body up, because the stuffed arms and legs were inside it. I actually broke my first needle on my machine - does that make me a real seamstress now? Anyway, the head was somewhat challenging, but not as much as sewing the head to the body. It's not hugely neat, but I am proud! Here is Edwina pre-accessories. ![]() I bought ribbon and glued on for shoes/leg ribbon things which was very easy. Sewing the tutu was another story altogether. I have never sewn with elastic or tulle before, so it made for quite an interesting experience. The tutu isn't as full as I would have liked, but one time through the machine was enough - I didn't feel like repeating to add more layers. And so, here she is... ![]() And here is Edwina doing what she does best - dancing! ![]() I found the pattern for her head in this book, but I designed the body pattern. This could explain why she has shoulders, but no bum! |
