And I was doing so well too We never went to Melbourne of course. We watched the cricket from the best seats in the house. Our house that is. It was a fantastic game though, and I really wish we had have gone. Maybe next time hey. I have really been into the cricket lately, which is funny given that when I was younger, I despised anything remotely sporty, both to watch and to play. Now I love watching the NRL, cricket, and I am recently starting to enjoy tennis. How bizarre. Tuesday we went to the Powerhouse Museum to see the Lord of the Rings Exhibition. After having watched hours and hours of "behind the scenes" footage on each of the extended version DVD's, I wasn't sure there was anything more to see. But there was plenty to marvel over at the exhibition. The walls were full of the most beautiful artworks by the various conceptual designers. The costumes were exquisite and I loved the amount of detail that went into them. It was awesome to see them up close and see the amount of work that went into each one. We were able to see detail that wasn't really captured on the screen. If I could have managed it, I would have "borrowed" Galadriel's dress and Arwen's jewellery. Probably the thing that amazed me most was a boat that contained Boromir's body. It was so real that I was sure he was going to open his eyes at any second. All in all a fantastic day, well worth the ticket price. Unfortunately though, P was starting to get sick, so we didn't stay to browse the rest of the museum or do anything much else in Sydney at all. We came home, very much inspired to rewatch all three movies though and started on that yesterday. Yesterday was an adventure in itself. P woke up feeling miserable, after his flu set in over night. His throat was sore to the point where even swallowing liquid hurt, so I gave him some throat lozenges to suck on. Silly move. Within about thirty seconds of putting it in his mouth, P was choking. He spat the lolly out, but said he felt like he was choking on a piece of skin that was still attached. He was breathing, but only just. After totally panicking for a second, we jumped in the car and I drove down to the medical centre which is thankfully very close. I explained the situation to the receptionist and a nurse came to see him straight away. When the doctor finally came in, he told us that P had had an allergic reaction to the throat lolly, and it had made his epiglotis swell up. You know, that little dangly bit of skin at the back of your mouth. The doctor and nurse marvelled over how it had turned "gelatinous", so we knew at that point that as long as he could still breathe, there wasn't anything to worry about. He was told to suck on some ice to help reduce the swelling faster. Today it's still not completely back to normal, but he is able to breathe, eat and speak ok so all is well. I panicked again a little last night when I came home from church to find his temperature way up (38.2!) and complaining of a blinding headache and stiff muscles. Of course, I jumped to the worst possible conclusions, and was ready to take him down to the emergency room for fear of meningococcal. I made a teary phone call to my dad to ask him what to do, and he calmly gave me some instructions which I carried through. P seems to be doing much better today, and he doesn't have any pink spots, so my worst fears have thankfully gone unrealised. I am still playing nurse today and I think now we are about to go and start in on The Two Towers. Nothing too active for my baby just yet. |
