House Blessing Spell:

You will need:

1 white candle

a small dish of salt herbs: lavender, basil or hyssop (for clearing and blessing)

anointing oil (lavender or hyssop)

Sage smudge wand or jasmine incense

Best time- sunrise

Light the sage or incense.

Combine the salt with the cleansing herbs, and visualize their cleansing properties increasing as you stir in a clockwise direction.

Anoint the candle with the oil, focusing on your home cleared of any negativity, and filled with abundance, joy and laughter for all who live or visit there.

Write down on a small piece of paper what you wish for ... and put the piece of paper under the candle, and as you light it, say: "May this or something better now manifest in accordance with the highest karmic good for all concerned." (This is called the karmic clause, and should be repeated every time you make a wish.)

Sprinkle the herbs and salt - a small pinch at a time - in and around the corners, entranceways and windowsills of your home, and affirm your blessings. Let the candles burn as you visualize your goal. You can repeat this for several days, up until the Full Moon, but let the candles burn all the way down on the last day. Keep the slip of paper on your altar, in a special small box, or in a medicine bag to be worn around your neck.

Spell to Strengthen the Witch Within

This is a time of the rebirth of the root cultures of many peoples. Ancient wisdom's that were lost or obscured by the power shifts of history are now coming into light through many channels. Native people are discovering their rituals, their myths, their shamans. The advances of technology are adding to this wave of discovery in many ways, such as through media and communication (take the Internet for instance). The image of the witch is at the root of our cultural past. To embrace and affirm this aspect of ourselves is to tap the power of tradition, longevity, and cellular memory. Once we understand ourselves, harmony sets in. In preparing for your spell, first do some serious thinking about just what the image of the witch means to you. Make a list of all her qualities, her powers, her names, how she looks, what she wears, thinks, feels, etc. See her in your mind's eye with as much clarity and detail as possible. This spell should be cast three times, at the new, full, and dark of the month. Ingredients: Large piece of parchment paper Pen Two purple candles Moon Oil (Recipe) Power incense A small moonstone Arrange your altar. Carve moons into your candles and anoint them with oil. Anoint yourself as well, on brow, heart, and hands. Seat yourself comfortably and light the candles, saying: "With this flame, I awaken the Witch within me." Light the incense. Close your eyes and breathe deeply for a while, relax, and let go. Bathe yourself and your aura in white light. Keep breathing deeply and slowly as you begin to sway and weave, letting your body move into a circular motion. Empty yourself of all distractions and anxieties. When you feel flowing and peaceful, let your imagination fill up with images of your inner Witch. Take up the parchment and pen and make a sketch of her (don't worry about style or quality; the simpler the better). Write your impressions and ideas beneath the drawing. Set this up between the candles so that it is facing you. Take the moonstone and clasp it to your heart. Keep breathing and weaving as you fill yourself with the image on the parchment. Draw the Witch image into yourself, see her multiplied a thousand-fold, vibrating in every cell of your body. Repeat the following incantation three times: "I am willing to be different and strong I am willing to be different and beautiful I am willing to be different and free I am willing to be different from patriarchy For this difference Is the same Sameness With the Non-Linear World of Magick The Goddess Her forces My dreams The moon My feelings My creativity My passion My deep love Of all creation... And the only conforming I need to do Is Forming Creation For I am form And I am forming To universal law And therefore Must survive... And even though I may at times Feel alone And misunderstood I will remember That I have sisters out there Who are learning to be free Like me And that I am not alone But all One And that free women Were respected And loved And will be again And will be again And will be I will it to be I will it to be And so doth it be Forever And ever So be it Blessed be" As you repeat this chant, let your words flow rhythmically as you weave and sway, let your voice create melody. Improvise, make new words if you feel inspired. When you feel complete, slip your parchment beneath the altar cloth. Give thanks to the Goddess and God and snuff out the candles. The moonstone is to carry at all times. Keep it in your pocket, under your pillow, or wear it in a pouch. Whenever you feel the need, hold the stone and rub it with your thumb in a circular motion. Think or say: "I am safe I am me All is well Blessed be" Tell no one of this spell until it has come to fullness. Even as you feel your powers strengthen, it may be best to maintain silence. Be discreet about sharing your magick.

HOW TO PUT TOGETHER A SPELL

by Lady Bridget, © 1998

Boil everything down to it's barest essentials, to do that - eliminate the people. Don't involve any people in your spell itself - this doesn't mean you have to work alone, this means don't put spells on people! Remember, the only person you can work on is yourself! The only person you have the right to try to change is yourself - work on being the person you always thought you would be. Get down to the nitty-gritty, what do you want? Be exact: "I want a job where I make X dollars an hour, I enjoy what I am doing, I get along with my co-employees and my employer, I work only 9-5 weekdays, I have Holidays off and other time off as needed, etc." Now I don't say exactly what or who I will work for, I leave that to the Universe (and/or God/dess) to manifest that for me. This is being "generally specific" by saying what I want but not how it has to present itself. Also plan to read the want ads and go on job interviews, you need to put yourself in a place or position where your spell CAN manifest. If you don't look, you won't find. Now, fine tune your spell by adding more ingredients in the way of day of the week, time of the day, runes (if any), herbs, oil, soap, candles, cycle of the Moon, incense, etc. The more vibrations you tune in to your spell, the more fun Younger Self has with it. Also the more energy and thought and research you are putting in, the more you will get back. Remember to construct your spell in rhyme, as a chant works best, and be positive (say what you want, not what you don't want). See as happening NOW, not tomorrow or some time in the distant future. Your subconscious mind only knows HERE and NOW. BASIC SPELLCRAFT CORRESPONDENCE LISTING To help you get all the ingredients you want into your spellcraft I have provided the following listing. This is similar to what you can find in a magickal diary, and should be the elements you want to include in your book of shadows. Writing everything down including the results, will help you to see how effective your magick is, and will help you to fine tune your skills. I have tried to make this list as complete as possible, but feel free to add any ingredient that you wish to work with that may not be listed here in the space provided for "other". The first step, then, is to fill in the list with all the elements that correspond to your desire, whether or not you intend to actually use them. After you have compiled the complete listing of all ingredients you could use, then you can go back and decide exactly which ingredients you choose to use. You can use them all. People normally will choose what they have readily available, and work with those. You may find something by doing this research that you hadn't thought of before, but that will fit so perfectly into your ritual that you want to include it, and that is the beauty of making this list. Choices should always be thoroughly explored before beginning the magick itself. Purpose God & Goddess Moon phase Day of the Week Planet Planetary Hour Element (air, fire, water, earth) Number Color Incense/oils Gems or crystals Herbs/plants Other associations Fill out this list using resources and books that you may have on hand, and also using your own intuition. "The Spiral Dance" by Starhawk has many useful Tables of Correspondences in the back of it, as do many books on the Craft. Do the research, do the work, it is worth the effort, for what you put out is what you will get back in terms of magickal energy. Now go back and decide which of these elements you choose to incorporate into the spell itself. Remember to keep you numerology as consistent as possible. See what substitutions you may have to make. For example, in Cunningham's "Wicca for the Solitary Practitioner", he gives substitutions for plants and herbs that may not be available in your area. You don't have to use what is listed in a book, either, if it feels wrong to you. Go with your own feelings, for this spell is for you and about you, and you are the most important element in it. It must feel right to you to be the most effective. Decide what KIND of spell you are going to do, candle magick, poppet magick, etc. What kind of energy raising do you want to use for this spell? Chanting, dancing, and physical activity, or do you wish to raise energy through meditation and visualization? This depends entirely on your own expertise and comfort. It's better to go with the method that is appealing to you until you have perfected which method you like best. This is work, and raising and sending the energy successfully takes practice. What words will you use for your purpose? Remember that chanting is better done in rhyme for younger self. A method that works well and is fairly simple to remember is to make a couplet, or two line rhyme about your purpose. To say, "I want a wonderful, fulfilling job that is exactly perfect for me" is an excellent statement. To say the same thing in a rhyme, something like, "When the Moon is at her peak, The perfect job is what I seek" is easier to get into, has a good beat for chanting, and will help you focus your energy. This is an example of translating your desires into rhyme. Play with it a bit. Avoid the temptation to write long verses for this, keep it simple and easy to remember, since you really don't want to be reading all this while you are trying to raise the energy. Now that you have the basics down, it's time to write what you plan to do. I recommend highly that you take a spiritual bath first, and that you do cast a circle or some kind of protected, sacred space. So include those items in your plan. Use an appropriate bath salt, or herbs and oils in your bath to coincide with your magickal working. Write down all the supplies you will need for your magick. If you plan to inscribe your candle in circle, write down the tool you will use to do that on your list too! Make this a recipe for your magick, and list EVERYTHING you will need. It is very distracting to be right in the middle of working only to find that you forgot something and you have to leave the circle area to get it. Read your ritual aloud. Does it make sense? Does is sound good to you? Does it sound like too much work? Seriously, sometimes people get so carried away with the writing of the ritual that they include lots of readings and lots of activities to be done over a series of days, and then when it gets right down to doing it, they haven't the time to complete it because there's just too much! Be realistic in what you WILL be able to do. You can include a lot of elements to fine tune the ritual, but still keep the basic magick itself simple and focused. Like anything else, it comes with practice. So after all this, you may say to yourself, "Why don't I just use some one else's ritual who has already done all this work for me?" That's a really good question! And here's "my" answer: Spells that we write for ourselves have so much more impact and work better in our own lives than any spell someone else could write for us. This doesn't mean that you can't use someone else's rhyme, or use someone's idea, or their choice of Goddess or whatever you like. Go ahead! You can always borrow ideas from other people, that's how we grow and learn. And you can use other people's spells as well, and they can be very effective. My point is simply, if you don't do the work for yourself, you don't get the chance to learn and grow. Since that is always my goal, that's how I teach. Spellcraft is an art and takes time to learn. If you don't wish to learn the art, then just use any spell that looks good to you out of a book and it will be effective to a certain degree. You must do what makes YOU happy, and what you are able to do. The only wrong thing there is, in my opinion, is to force your will on another person, which is harm. "An it harm none, do what ye will."

Increase Your Healing Ability

by Marie T. Russell

Everyone is a healer. Yes, you too! Just as everyone is alive and breathing, everyone has the power and the ability to connect with the life energy that brings in healing. You don't need training, though you can certainly learn techniques and earn confidence by taking classes; you don't need certification, though if you're going to become a "healer" officially and provide your services for hire, then certification is recommended. But, if you're wanting to increase your healing ability so that you can use it for your own healing, then it's right there waiting for you to tap into it. Many of us go through life seeking healing from other people when really the only person who can heal us is ourselves. We run to doctors or healers to have them "heal" us. Yet, the body is the one which heals itself with the assistance of whatever remedies or assistance it receives. Whether one is taking pills, vitamins, or herbs, the body is the one that utilizes these as it sees fit. You could be eating the best foods, yet your body has to know and be capable of utilizing them in order for you to be "healed". The body is the one which knows what to do with the calcium, the vitamins, the enzymes, the healing energy... If it didn't have it's own innate intelligence, it would not know how to utilize these healing substances that we ingest and accept into our being. The medicines or the medical staff are not the healers... the body itself is the healer. Thus, the responsibility for healing oneself returns to its only true home, yourself. Possibly, you have felt helpless in healing yourself and you don't feel like you know where to start. A good place to start is with convincing yourself that you indeed can heal yourself. This means reprogramming the thoughts you carry of lack... lack of self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence. You might begin the re-programming with statements such as these: My body is healing itself and the cells of my body are constantly "giving birth" to new healthy cells. Everyday, I get healthier and happier (and whatever other qualifications you want to increase in your life). My body is constantly healing itself every day and every moment. Every little cell in my body is happy; every little cell in my body is well. I am connected with the life force and always have enough energy and vitality to be completely healthy and happy. Practice talking to yourself. (No, they won't lock you up.) If you are afraid of being thought weird, speak silently to yourself... Talk to the cells of your body. Tell them you love them. Tell them you now give them permission to be healthy. Visualize (a fancy word for imagine) them being healthy and vibrant with life force. See your body being filled with radiant healing energy. Feel it spreading from the top of your head down to the bottom of your feet. Tell yourself that you now give yourself complete permission to be 100% healthy and 100% happy. How to do hands-on self-healing You can do "hands-on" healing on yourself. All you need is the willingness to accept that this is indeed possible and to give permission to have Divine energy flow through you. Start by asking for Divine protection and see yourself surrounded by white light. A good way to do this is to fill your heart with white light and then have the light keep expanding until you are filled with while light, and surrounded with light in a somewhat egg-shape. Hold up your left hand, palm outward, and ask for healing energy to flow through you. Imagine the healing energy coming in to your body through the palm of your left hand. You can visualize it as white light, or green energy, or whatever seems appropriate to you at the moment. Trust your intuition or gut feeling on this one, as different healing situations will call for different energies, or colors of light, or warmth, etc. As you keep holding up your left hand and allowing the Diving energy to enter, place your right hand, palm down, on the area of your body which needs healing. You may feel some warmth entering your left hand, and the palm of your right hand may get hot. You might also feel a tingling or vibrating effect. This is the energy of healing moving through you. (If you don't feel anything, don't worry. The energy is still there -- you simply are not sensitive to it yet.) Relax and be grateful for the ability to be a channel for this energy. You may use this for digestion problems, muscle soreness, tense shoulders, headaches, stress, etc. etc. etc. You may also use this God-given talent to share with friends. Teach them to connect with this force. Everyone is a healer. The body was built as a self-healing mechanism. When given the chance the body heals itself. Animals know this which is why they go off by themselves to rest when hurt or ill. The human animal (that's us) can also do the same. We can respect the needs of our body for quiet, rest, fasting, and healing energy. Listen to the quiet inner voice which guides you as to what you need to do. When feeling ill you may choose to take some time to be alone and quietly apply some healing energy to your body. After all, this body is the only one you got. When it is properly connected to life energy it can heal itself, so plug in to the source and heal thyself...

Easy New Way to See Auras

by Robert Bruce

(C) Copyright 7-April-1994 all rights reserved.

All colours have a uniquely coloured aura of their own that are of a completely different colour. These auras, given off by colours, are denser and far easier to see than any other aura. Using this as a basis, I have designed a simple, graduated training method that has most people seeing an aura the first time they try it. The auric colours you will see building up from coloured objects are similar in appearance to the after images generated by staring at a brightly coloured shape and then quickly looking at a neutral coloured wall. The similarity in the colours, rather than contradicting the validity of the auric colours of colour, confirms them. Why would they be any different? You can, in the early stages of learning to see auras, cause an after image that is still seen when you look away. This is caused by staring too hard, and for too long, resulting in colour depletion of the rods and cones in the eyes. With practise, much less effort is needed and no after images are seen, only the aura. The way the aura builds up is totally unlike the way an after image appears. If, while an aura is building up, you shift focusslightly, or blink, it disappears instantly. An after image does not. I have been able to see the human aura for many years. I was not born with this ability but taught myself. It took me several years! I know the problems inherent in learning this and the new training method is designed to overcome them. What is an Aura? The human aura is an energy field that reflects the subtle life energies within the body. These energies make us what we are and in turn are affected by our surroundings and life style. The aura reflects our health, mental activity and emotional state. It also shows disease - often long before the onset of symptoms. Close to the skin is the etheric aura. It is seen as a pale, narrow band that outlines the body, usually no more than half an inch wide. It looks like pale smoke clinging to the body. This is the visible part of the etheric body in it's contracted state. During sleep the etheric body expands greatly and opens to absorb and store cosmic energy. The etheric is better named the vitality sheath or energy body. After sleep it contracts, forming a dense sheath around the body close to the skin. The main aura is banded around the body - strata like. Imagine a person with thick, coloured hoops of light dropped over them and you get the idea. These colours emanate from the chakras. Basic energy is drawn up from the planet through the feet and fed into the chakras, much like a plant does with water. Each chakra is a transformer that generates energy of a different type and colour. The strength of each chakra depends on the person's nature and life style. Together these chakras generate the dominant hue of the aura. The main aura is photo-sensitive, it reacts and expands in light. The aura's chakra system can be likened to a tree. Energy/nutrient is drawn up through the feet/roots and fed through the body/trunk to the chakras/leaves. Many experts suggest people can be classed by the basic hue, or the dominant colour, of their aura. For example, Blue means a highly spiritual person, trustworthy, honest. Orange means an emotional type of person etc... I have found this to be misleading. The aura is a complex and changeable engine and cannot be judged so simply. The aura is sensitive to colour. It reacts to the colours of clothing and to that of its surroundings. This accounts for our natural likes and dislikes when it comes to choosing the colours that surround us. The effect of colour on the emotions is well known and are they widely used in hospitals and institutions to calm agitated people and put them at ease. Pink is the most frequently used colour for this. It is the emotional colour of love and happiness. Watch a mother's aura when she first looks into the eyes of her new baby, and falls head over heels in love. At that special, happy moment, you will see this most lovely of auras in all its glory. There is a whole science devoted to the use of colours. This is called Colour Healing or Colour Therapy. It is impossible to get a clear view of the aura through clothing. The auric colours of the clothes react with the person's aura, causing interference that blocks and changes it. For example: A Blue shirt will flood the natural aura with Yellow. Even neutral coloured clothing will block and dim the aura making it difficult to see. Disease: This shows up in the aura in many different ways, sometimes weeks before any physical symptoms. An ear infection, for example, will show up as a shadow over the side of the head before any symptoms appear. This shadow will gradually change into a murky, khaki Green. As the infection takes hold, it will become shot through with Red and Orange flecks. Khaki and murky Green with Red and Orange flecks, is commonly seen with any infection. Death: When a person is dying the aura changes dramatically. I have observed the auras of people with terminal cancer in the weeks prior to death. First the aura fades and weakens, and then, a week or so before death it expands, changing into a beautiful pale Blue shot through with Silver sparks. Why most people fail to see the Aura The most common reason people fail to see the aura when they first try is simply the way they go about it. The human aura is not a good training ground for beginners. This is what usually happens: Your volunteer sits and waits, for a long time, while you strain for a glimpse of their aura. You are trying to relax and concentrate and master a tricky visual technique, all at the same time. You subconsciously worry about what they are thinking of you. Are they getting bored or impatient? Do they think you foolish, a failure, or both? This kind of pressure causes tension that effectively negates the relaxed state needed to see the aura. Trying to get results under this kind of pressure, as a beginner, is next to impossible. Email letters from a young man. It shows a common problem encountered when trying to see the aura: >>David:> "I was sitting in Economics class when I started to see a faint white glow (not really though, I can't really describe it), it was surrounding the sides of his head. And I could also see a similar one coming from one of the students sitting in front of him, except the student's had a sort of bluish tinge to it. Then I started to see the same thing coming from some of the computer monitors that sit on the desk. At first, I was hoping that I could see auras but then when I saw it on the monitors, I had my doubts." MY ANSWER:>> Every living, and non living thing has an aura, including monitors. The reason you saw them when you did is {let me guess} You were very relaxed, maybe day dreaming a little. Your eyes were tired, relaxed, and these are the PERFECT conditions for seeing the aura. >>DAVID:> "That's exactly how I was. The discussion sort of went off topic and wasn't all that interesting to me." >>DAVID:> "Anyway, I was wondering if you can tell me if I actually did see their aura. I tried staring at myself in the mirror to see my aura but it didn't work and I haven't been able to see their auras since that day a week or two ago. As for some of my questions. I was wondering what colours non-living objects give off (is it white?), how come it was brighter on their heads?" MY ANSWER:>> You did see the aura! The colours given off by non-living objects vary with the colour of the object. The human aura is brighter around the head area for two reasons: 1. Clothing blocks the aura. 2. The head area is usually bare and is where the YELLOW of intellect is most active. This yellow varies in intensity according to the degree of mental activity. Maybe the student you observed was really on the ball that day. How to see the Aura To see the aura you have to be able to relax and concentrate, at the same time, and there is a trick to focusing the eyes in a special way. 1. You need soft light to train in, not dim, but good soft light. No harsh light shining or reflecting in your eyes! Get a book and cover it in Blue or Red paper. Stand it upright on a table several feet from you. Experiment with the distance until you find what is best for you. Make sure you have a plain neutral background. If the wall colour is wrong, hang a sheet of neutral coloured paper or cloth as a backdrop. Note: The auras of the colours Blue and Red are the brightest and easiest to see. Blue has a Yellow aura and Red has a Green aura. The brightness and tone of the aura varies with the shade and tone of the colour used, so use bright primary colours. 2. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and relax. When you are calm, look at the book. Focus your eyes on nothing, a little to the side and past it. Gently hold and get used to that focus but don't strain your eyes or tense your eyes or forehead. Concentrate! you need a gentle, steady un-focus, similar to day-dreaming. Note: When you need to blink, do so, or it will cause your eyes to tense and water. Blink normally and quickly without changing focus, and do not become preoccupied with it. It may cause the aura to disappear for a second, but it will reappear quickly if you stay relaxed and hold your focus. After a while you will see a pale narrow aura coming from the book. Hold the focus, don't look AT it, soon a bright Yellow or Green aura will start building up from the object. Don't change focus or look directly at it or the aura will disappear. There is a reason for this strange un-focus. Your outer field of vision is many times more sensitive than the focused area is. Have you ever seen a movement, out of the corner of your eye, only to turn and see nothing there? What you may have seen is an aura building up from something and your outer field of vision has detected it. 3. Once you have completed the first step, gather several books and cover them, each with a different coloured paper. Study these one at a time and write down the auric colour for it. Next try using two at a time, and watch how the auric colours affect each other. 4. Get a pot plant or some flowers and study it. The aura you will see emanates from the living plant and also from the colours of the petals. The Orange hue comes from the green of the stems and leaves. You will also see a more distinct etheric and a shimmering optical effect around them. This shimmering is the energy field or living aura of the plant. 5. For the next step use an animal, dog or cat etc, if you have one. Try and observe them when they are resting. 6. Observe your own aura. This can be done both inside and outside in the sun. Hold your arm out and study it against the sky or clouds. Alternatively, lie down and look at your legs. Make sure the skin is bare when you do this, and remember, grass will give off an Orange hue. 7. When you feel proficient enough, try it with a human subject. Just remember not to try too hard. Do it exactly the same as in the original exercise with the book. Get your volunteer to remove some of their clothing and study the bare skin area against a neutral background. On a human subject, again, the first thing you will see is the etheric aura, like pale smoke clinging to the skin. Next you will see the shimmering optical effect in the air extending from several inches to a couple of feet deep, depending on the strength of their aura. Keep trying and the aura's colour will build up, and out from, the etheric. It will first appear as a narrow band of colour next to the etheric. This will expand slowly, if you hold your focus, until it is several inches or more thick. 8. The brightness of a person's aura has a lot to do with how they feel. If they feel happy and full of life their aura is stronger, larger and brighter. Try playing their favourite music, this will help to energize their aura and make it easier to see. 9. Try it on your volunteer outside. Make sure the sun is behind you and use clouds as a backdrop. Note: The basic auras of colours are as follows: Blue = Yellow aura, Red = Green aura, Green = Orange aura, Yellow = Pale Blue aura, Orange = Pale Green aura, Violet = Pale Gold aura, Indigo= Gold aura, Pink = Iridescent Green. These colours will vary slightly according to the shade and tone of the colours you use. It takes practise to see the human aura, so don't be disappointed if you fail, or see very little, the first few times you try. If you managed to see the auric colours of the books, you CAN learn to see the human aura. Using this training method stimulates the forehead chakra, which is responsible for this ability. With use, it will grow in strength, and become progressively easier to do. I have taught many people to see the aura using this method. The fast results build confidence and keep interest high. This ensures enough work and effort is put in to get the desired results... seeing the human aura.

Exercises in Preparation for Meditation

This information comes from "Trancing the Witches Wheel" By Yasmine Galenorn

Loosening the Body Make sure your clothes are comfortable. Loosen any tight straps or binding fasteners. Take three deep breaths. Stand up and reach towards the ceiling (you can do this while sitting in a chair if necessary, just adjust the exercise as needed) Keeping your right foot flat on the ground to bear your weight, stretch toward teh ceiling with your left side, arm raised and taut, hand splayed. Point your left leg in front of you and stretch your leg and foot so long the toes of your left foot touch the ground. Hold for a count of five. Slowly lower your foot to the ground and draw your leg back. Now reach up with your right side, arm taut, hand splayed. This time, allow your left foot to bear your weight. Extend your right leg and stretch as before, holding for a five count. Slowly lower your foot to the floor and draw you leg back. Next, gently drop your arms to your sides. Lean to your left, as if the floor was fulling your arm down. Hold for five. Slowly come up again and repeat on right side. Now gently bend forward from the waist and let your arms dangle in front of you. Bend your knees -- you should not feel any pain while doing this -- and shake your body gently from side to side. Now raise up again. Take three Deep breaths. *** Examine how your body feels now. When you are meditating, you must be able to relax so that your focus can be entirely on the journey in front of you. The above exercise is a gentle way to let go of tension and prepare yourself for meditation. It is also helpful anytime you need a break from a stressful situation. ~~ Listening to Breath Make sure you are wearing comfortable clothing and that you have privacy for at least 10 minutes. Take a moment to loosen the body and then sit in a comfortable position. Take three deep breaths. As you let out the third breath, close your eyes. Now sit still, breathing normally, but listen to your breath as you take it in, and then as you let it out. Feel your lungs expand as you inhale and feel them contract as you exhale. Breathe through your mouth. Does it feel different than when you breathe through your nose? Each time your mind starts to wander, stop, gently bring your focus back to your breathing, and start again. Practice this for 5 minutes, then take another three deep breaths and open your eyes.

Take yourself to a place where you won't be disturbed for at least 20 minutes. Lie down and relax... Take some deep breaths and breathe out any tension you are holding in your body and allow yourself to slowly sink down into the floor... Let go... Allow the floor to hold you up, and sink deeper and deeper into yourself... You are walking along a seashore... It's nighttime... : The waves softly lap along the water's edge and a crescent moon is just visible in the sky... A warm nighttime breeze caresses your face; some where an owl hoots... You begin to slowly walk along the beach, with the moon always in sight... far off in the distance you see a light burning... Resolve to investigate... As you draw nearer you realize it is a bonfire burning on the sands... Sparks shoot up from the flames and drift off into the velvet blackness of the midnight sky. Drawing closer still, you see there is an old, old woman sitting by the fire... You draw nearer... She looks up and smiles encouragingly... Feeling the heat of the blaze you move towards her and greet her... From the heat of the blaze you move towards her and greet her... From underneath her cloak she draws out a crystal ball and hands it to you... In it are images showing your next step. Watch them without judgment... When they have stopped spend a little while if you need to, talking to the crone. Take your leave and walk slowly away... Come back into the room and write down your findings.
