Frequently Asked Questions
Q.  Who are the school district administrators at the Education Center, how long have they been on the job in Monroe-Woodbury, and where do they reside?

Joseph DiLorenzo, Superintendent (3 years, Resides in the Town of Wallkill)
Carole O'Neil, Asst. Superintendent for Instruction    (4 years, Resides in Town of Warwick/children live in M-W)
Ed Mehroff, Asst. Superintendent for HR (1 year, Resides in New Paltz)
Jeffrey White, Asst. Superintendent for Business and Management Services (Newly hired, Commutes from Long Island)

Interestingly, Mr. DiLorenzo was given both a large raise and a contract extension recently even though the district scores and results continue to deteriorate.  He is now earning much more than the salary reported in the Times Herald Record story on public salaries.  It is also interesting to note that he lives in the town of Newburgh.

Also it is interesting to note that it was both Mr. Mehroff and Mr. White (with one year of experience in our district between them) that were assigned by the board of education and superintendent to negotiate the controversial new teachers contract that has divided our community and resulted in a contract that will drain the taxpayer of MILLIONS OF EXTRA DOLLARS OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS.  Mr. Mehroff lives in New Paltz in Ulster County and Mr. White lives on Long Island.

Q. I've heard a lot of talk about the new teachers contract.  How can I get a copy of it so I can decide for myself?

A.  Anyone can fill out a FOIL (Freedom of Information Law) form and receive a copy of any public record of the school district that they would like to take a look at.  Please go to our
home page
where there is information on how to obtain a FOIL form.  You can simply mail the form to the district clerk at the education center or drop it off. The district clerk's office is in the superintendent's office, in case you would like to meet Mr. DiLorenzo and ask him any questions about our school district.

Q.  There is a listing on the district website that talks about Board of Education Committees.  What are these?

A.  Board of Education committees are sub-committee groups of the board that meet in groups of less than 5 members to work on specific topics and bring back their findings, research etc. to the full board for deliberation.  The chairpersons of the committees are assigned by the Board of Education president, Michael DeGeronimo.

Interestingly, this year the three most important sub-committees - Policy, Visitation and Public Relations were stripped of their veteran board member chairpersons (Theresa Budich and Bob Curtis among them) and were instead assigned to three newly elected board members who have no experience in any of these areas:  Jennifer Trumper, Eleni Kikiras-Carter and Wayne Chan respectively.)
