Extract is a program used to take mpeg (*.mpg) audio/video files from the hard drives of ReplayTV and Panasonic ShowStopper brands of personal video recorders.  Note the hard drive has to be removed from the Replay and connected to your PC. See the Links page for resources on how to do this. Extract is based on extract_rtv, a command line program that is available for both Linux and Win32 platforms.

Note: This program only works under Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows NT. For all other systems you should use the command line version with a Linux boot disk. See the extract_rtv site for more information.

Extract is free to use. You can send comments or feedback to me at [email protected]

Features

  • Acts as a shell to the extract_rtv program (included).
  • Displays filename, file size, program name, show title, source, record date/time, length, and quality setting.
  • Can sort the list by clicking on the appropriate column header.
  • Generates the extract_rtv command to extract the selected file.
  • An .ini file will save your window settings, column order and widths, and data path.

Limitations

  • Does not show deleted files or recover deleted files (the r, u, v options).
  • Does not insert any -p options (assumes files on second partition).
  • Does not insert the devicename parameter (extract_rtv will autodetect your ReplayTV drive).

These last two limitations can be overcome by using Version 1.1 of this program which allows editing the command box within the program. I may add some code that will let you specify partition and devicename parameters if a lot of people need it. I assume most folks get along fine with the standard options.
