He/she selects someone at random to speak for 90 seconds about a topic posed to them. It is everyone's goal to present a mini-speech in 90 seconds with an opening, body and conclusion. This is excellent practice at impromptu speaking which you may be called upon to do at job interviews or in your work. Most people find this the most terrifying part of the meeting. However Toastmasters is a very supportive environment, and members are congratulated for however long they speak. Toastmasters is all about self development and Table Topics is certainly an area most people find challenging. You do feel a great sense of satisfaction though, when you start improving and speak for 90 seconds for the first time. there are usually 3 speeches presented during a meeting. Speeches can be one of the initial project speeches or from an advanced manual. We also have speakers presenting educationals on various topics to help improve our speaking skills. Table Topics and speeches are evaluated. Recommendations are given as to where a speaker can improve and commendations are also given to highlight a speaker's strong points. keeps us on time. Everything in Toastmasters is timed as it is an important skill to learn to get your message across within an allocated timeframe. selects a word for the day, which speakers attempt to use when they speak during the meeting. This is a good way to expand our vocabulary. Evaluates everyone who hasn't already been evaluated during the meeting and convey their general impression of the meeting and to offer any suggestions to improve future meetings. |
