| New Moon The period of three days before through three days after a new moon. This is the time for magick involving personal growth and all beginnings. Spells worked on these nights will normally take until the full moon to come to fruition. Some believe the first three days of the new moon should not be used to work magick. However, if you feel that you must feel free to do so. No ravenous monster will dive down and carry you off. This phase marks the beginning or ritual works which are positive in nature. This also marks the beginning of growth. Waxing Moon The time between the new and full moon. This is when the moon is growing larger and is good for magick involving attractions. Spells begun on the new moon can also be reinforced during the waxing moon. Full Moon the time from three days prior to three days after the full moon. It is traditional for covens to meet on the full moon. The full moon is the time of the moons greatest power. This is a good time for magick involving endings and banishing negative influences. This is also a very powerful time for divination. Spells worked on these nights often will take until the new moon to manifest. This phase marks the peak of power. All things are focused and concentrated. Waning Moon The time between the full and new moon. This is when the moon is growing smaller and is a good time for magick involving rejections and banishing negative influences. Spells begun on the full moon can be reinforced during the waning moon. This phase marks negative and destructive energies The Moon and Astralogical Signs Aries, Leo, Sagittarius The moon in these signs accents rituals of love or friendship. Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn The moon in these signs accents rituals of astral dealing and spirit workings. | Time to talk about the Dark Moon. The three days before the New Moon are known as the dark of the moon. This is when you can't see the moon in the heavens. Traditionally, this is a time when no magick is performed. Use it as a time of rest, a period when you give yourself a break. Deep meditation and vision questing can be performed now, but not for a specific magickal purpose. However, this is also known as a time for working with the "dark" Goddesses if you have need. (The moon is 315-360 degrees ahead of the sun.) Most famously known, of course, for cursing, chaos magick, and bringing justice to bear. Goddesses here are Kali, the Morrigan, the Calliech, Lilith, and Hecate. It is also a time to move within self, to explore our darkest recesses and understand our angers and passions, steering them to work for us in a positive way. Dealing with attackers is best begun during the dark moon. Timing: The moon rises at 3am and sets at mid-afternoon. Despite the oddity, around 10am is the strongest pull of the dark moon. Close the drapes or use room-darkening blinds and meet the Dark Goddesses face to face. Check planetary hours for evening workings. Conjuring: Moon is 10-1/2 to 14 days after the full moon. Workings involve: Addictions; change; divorce; enemies; justice; obstacles; quarrels; removal; separation; stopping stalkers and theft. Meditations: Reach within yourself to pull out unwanted thoughts or desires. Examine them and dismiss them. Pathwork with the Dark Goddesses to receive their most exquisite gifts. |
| There is one more Moon Phase we need to consider.. The Black Moon A Black Moon occurs when there are two dark cycles of the moon in any given calendar month. It is believed that the second dark moon is a time of great power within the spiritual world and any magick worked during this time is especially powerful. | The moon is an infinite source of mystery and power. There is nothing more magickal than sitting in a secluded meadow under a full moon and feeling her power shower down on you. Different phases of the moon have different effects on magick. These can be used to your advantage to add power to your spells. You can get as detailed as you want when working with the moons powers. You can take into account the exact times of the moons phases, the astrological sign the moon is in and even which full moon it is. Here I'll just go into the simple basics of the tendencies of the four moon phases. |
