| The group started at a Youth Lock-in in the summer of 2003. They were sitting around, after doing some Karaoke, when they realized how much they all really liked to sing. They got some CDs and started having choir practice. (With no intention to ever perform in church, much less outside of church.) It's funny how God can make plans for you, and you just drop into them without ever knowing how it happened.
At that time the group consisted of 3 girls and 2 guys. Jessica and Jack are the only orginal members left. They are cousins. They welcomed a new member named Matthew. With Matthew they also got Mrs. Flo, his mom. When they were singing somewhere besides their church, everyone would introduce them all as cousins except Matthew. So they adopted Matthew as their cousin. They have a lady who used to attend their church named Mrs. Louise, who is unable to live by herself anymore. She is now at a nursing home a half hour from their church. They were asked to go sing for her at the nursing home. They were all very nervous but since it was for Mrs. Louise they decided to go. (This was their first 'outside of church' singing.) They enjoyed it so much and saw how much everyone at the nursing home enjoyed it that they decided to go every month. Since they were now going somewhere every month to sing, they decided they needed their own equipment. So, Jack and Jessica started looking into how much it would cost and what exactly the group would need. A man named Chris that they all have ties to through the community and the church said he would help them. He found out what they would need, how much it would cost and where they could get it. He also said that when they got it, he would help them learn to set it up. When they saw how much it would cost they nearly fell out. They approached the rest of the group with the figure and brain stormed on how to raise that much money. They knew that it would take a while to raise it so they planned a Garage Sale, Bake Sale and Concert. They were hoping that between the three they would be able to raise half. They had all of this scheduled within 3 weeks. After the 3 weeks were up and all of their fundraising was over, they counted up the money and had raised more than they needed. That was a very clear sign to them that God wanted them to do this! During Christmas of 2006 they had four gigs to sing. One of those gigs was the Arbor in Minden, where a wonderful man from their church is living now. Bro. Tommy is like a grandfather or an uncle to all of them. They loved singing there and the resisdents there were so friendly and encouraging that they are singing there every month also. During Christmas they also added Aunt Sue to their Crew. She has agreed to help Mrs. Flo with the sound board and to serve as back up in case Mrs. Flo is sick. They really appreciate everything she has done to support and encourage them. It still comes as a shock each time any of them think about the fact that God is using them as a ministry. |
