Sugar Glider

In the sclerophyll forests the possums

and gliders come into their own, exploiting

A variety of niches. More open than the

rainforests, these habitats allow the

marsupial gliders (Greater Glider, Yellow-

Bellied Glider, Sugar Glider and even the

mouse-sized feather-tailed Glider) to take

advantage of an energy-efficient mode of

travel through their territories. The

flaps of elastic skin between fore and

hindlimbs, with the tail preforming

the function of rudder, enable them to

cover relatively enormous distances in

a single glide
