| WELCOME Ethical and Legal Dilemnas for Nurses Sometimes issues and situations may have legal, ethical and moral dilemnas for the nurse. What may seem "right" may need to be considered in the context of the situation and the effects beyond the individual nurse or patient. You may encounter terms of patient autonomy, beneficence, non-malficence and justice. This exercise is to help you to examine your own predispositions and prejudices and to evaluate them in the light of circumstances that you may encounter in your future nursing practice. You will be required to choose one ofthe the case sernarios presented and read the associated articles. Contemplate the issues for the patient and his/her family. How might you be affected by your actions? What about your facility or the community at large? What are the ethical and legal issues associated with the case presented? Consider ther terminology below. How do these terms apply?: Beneficence Nonmalficence Autonomy Justice Fidelity Paternalism Veracity Utility Futility Moral Ethical Read the articles related to your chosen case and consider the implications. Write a reflective journal outlining your critical reflection of the subject in relationship to answering the following questions: 1. What is the Legal-Ethical problem within the case senario? 2. How does this problem affect nursing care, healthcare organizations and the community at large? 3. Why is this a legal ethical issue for nursing? 4. Summarize how this exercise has shaped your perception of this problem. Your journal should be a minimum of 5 pages of content with additional Title page and Reference page. - Use APA Format They should be typed and Double spaced with a typeface of 12 Times New Roman Courier. |
