About Our Rabbitry

It is impossible for me to have a page about Dwarfs with out mentioning two people that have made a major impact on my life and my rabbits.

Bob Pettit

I met Bob when I was a beginning Dwarf breeder and he took me in open armed and helped me in anyway he could.  He saw the spark in me and helped to fan my flame of enthusiasm. I miss Bob, and his wisdom.

Larry Long

I have always thought of Larry as the Dad that understands me...  the dad that 'gets' the rabbit thing.  Larry and his wife Lolly have been great close friends of the truest kind throughout my life.   It is impossible for me to look at a rabbit let alone a Dwarf rabbit and not think of Larry and what he means to me.  Larry was my mentor, my friend and I have a million ridiculous and fun memories of this man.   Larry passed away January 22, 2008.  I miss him with every fiber of my being.

This link will take you to the essay I wrote about my Friendship with Larry, called The Importance of Ice Cream.  It will appear in the Spring Issue of the ANDRC Dwarf Digest.

I have been raising Netherland Dwarf Rabbits since 1988

I have been raising Netherland Dwarf Rabbits since 1988.  The Dwarf is my most favorite of all breeds of rabbits.  They present many challenges to the fancier and equally as many rewards. In 2004 my son, Mike Hughes took an interest in the Dwarfs and began breeding and showing a few.  We were showing all the Dwarfs together in open shows under Stock/Hughes.

2008 begins the partnership with me, and Amanda O’Gorman.  We are working together to breed and show these wonderful little rabbits.  We are breeding many varieties.  We are also in the beginning stages of projects in Himalayan, Tortoise Shell, Sable Point, Chinchilla, Squirrel and Silver Marten.

I have raised every variety of Dwarf over the years.  These days the focus mainly on three different sets of colors.

I have given each of these three groups their own page.

Lynx & Fawn
