Ranma ½ is Rumiko Takahashi's second major Anime/Manga the show ran between the early 80's to the early 90's.  Its sort of hard to figure where to begin so I think I'll start with Ranma's "special condition".  This condition that Ranma is afflicted with is a ancient chinese curse Ranma got while he and his father were on a training journey in a training ground in china.  Ranma trains in the Martial Arts called The Anything Goes Martial Arts, which means exactly what it sounds like anything can and will go as long as it has Martial Arts in it but primarily Anything Goes focuses on the Kenpo style of Martial Arts.  The training ground is called the cursed springs of Jusenkyou.  The Jusenkyou has over 100 springs and within each of those springs a person/animal/thing has drowned and within in the springs themselves are bamboo shoots sticking out of the pond.  The curse in each of those springs is that when someone falls into one of the springs then he or she will transform into the creature that drowned in that spring.  The characteristics of the curse are that the curse is activated with the use of cold water and deactivated with the use of hot water.
Ranma and his father Genma were training by jumping onto the bamboo shoots and jumping at each other and grappling while in mid air then jumping back onto the bamboo shoots.  While fighting Ranma managed to kick his father Genma into one of the ponds ("Shon-Mao-Nii-Chuan" the spring of the drowned Panda). 
What emerged from the pond was a huge panda who jumped onto a bamboo shoot and attacked a very surprised Ranma knocking him into another pond ("Nyan-Nii-Chuan" the spring of the drowned girl).  This is the start of Ranma's many many problems Ranma has effectively gotten himself changed from a boy into a girl.
Ranma's biggest problem is his many fiancee's the worst of which is Ranma's first fiancee Akane Tendo.  Akane is a tomboyish martial artist with a fuse so short she explodes at the smallest provocation
Akane is the youngest daughter of Genma's oldest friend Soun Tendo who is the owner of the Tendo Dojo and father of three daughters as well as being a man who can and will cry at the drop of a hat.
His oldest daughter's name is Kasumi, his middle daughter's name is Nabiki and the youngest daughter is Akane.  Kasumi is the "mother" of the family who takes care of the cleaning cooking and everything that deals with the house, Nabiki is obsessed with money and does anything and everything she can to get her hands on it (mostly through exploiting Ranma in one way or another) and finally Akane who is the tomboy and only martial artist of the three girls.
Ranma's problem with Akane begins when his father forces him to go to the Tendo Dojo instead of finding a cure like he wants to.  When Ranma meets the Tendos he at the time is in his female form and his father is a panda, so there's a lot of confusion with the fact that Ranma is a girl.  Ranma and Akane become friends shortly after but when Akane walks in on Ranma in the bath as he was getting out of a hot bath she finds out his secret and it's hate at first sight.  After that their parents decide that the two would make a good couple and engages Ranma and Akane.
 
Ranma's second fiancee is a purple haired chinese amazon named Shampoo .  Ranma met her while he was a girl he and his father were searching for a cure for their water problem.  Ranma and Genma came to Shampoo's village during the village's annual amazon tournament and Ranma and his father found a table full of food and start eating what they didn't realize is that the food was the first prize for the winner of the tournament as they sat and ate Ranma and his father watched as a young purple haired chinese girl beat her opponent and won the tournament she became mad when she found Ranma and Genma eating her prize and Ranma then said that if he beats her in the tournament then it's not a problem.  Ranma face's off against shampoo and defeats her quickly.  After getting up Shampoo kisses female Ranma on the cheek.  Ranma finds out soon after words that according to the villages law if any amazon is defeated by an outside female then that amazon must follow her to the ends of the earth and kill her in order to reclaim her honor, the second part of that law is that if any outside male defeats an amazon then that amazon must marry the male who defeated her. 
From then on Ranma and Genma were on the run away from shampoo who attacked them at every opportunity finally forcing them to swim back to japan to get away from shampoo (yes believe it or not Ranma and Genma swam from Japan to China and then swam back all due to Genma being the cheapest man in Japan of course).  After living in Japan with the Tendos Ranma figured he had gotten away from the crazy chinese girl only to find that shampoo had located him some how and was coming to kill him once again. While threatening Akane about the "pig tailed girl's" whereabouts Ranma stepped in to defend Akane and accidentally knocked Shampoo out.  Ranma became scared because now he would be stalked and attacked while in both his male and female forms, what Ranma didn't know was that the second part of Shampoo's ancient amazon law "if an amazon is beaten by a female outsider then she must seek her out and kill her", is "if an amazon is beaten by a male outsider then said amazon must marry him".  When Shampoo gets up she walks up to Ranma instead of kissing him on the cheek like he is expecting instead she kisses him full on the mouth.  So now Ranma has a second fiancee who wants to kill him as a girl and marry him as a guy.
 
Ranma's third fiancee is his cute fiancee Ukyou Kounji.  Ukyou is a girl that Ranma was friends with when he was very young, her father was an okonomiyaki chef who had his own okonomiyaki cart.  Ranma and Ukyou became good friends and soon young Ukyou told her father that she wanted to marry Ranma.  Ukyou's father talked to Genma and said that if they take Ukyou along with them and have her and Ranma marry at a suitable age then he would give Genma his okonomiyaki cart as a dowry.  Genma being the jerk that he is went and asked Ranma which did he like best Ukyou or okonomiyaki Ranma who was to young to know better, he didn't even know Ukyou was a girl (she didn't dress or speak like a girl), said that he likes okonomiyaki best.  With that Genma went and took the cart and left Ukyou behind. 
Many years later Ukyou transfers to Furikan High (Ranma and Akanes school) and promptly challenges Ranma.  Ukyou is dressed as a boy and has even gone as far as to bind her breasts so except for her long hair there is nothing that could distinguish Ukyou's femininity.  After fighting Ranma wins and Ukyou runs off while Ranma chase's her and after fighting some more Ranma accidentally manages to rip the Ukyos chest binding and finds out that Ukyou is in fact a girl after talking Ukyou finds out that Ranma never realized that his father had left Ukyou behind and that he was sorry about everything he then tells her that she is cute and she shouldn't give up on men because of him.  Akane then comes in and she and Ranma start arguing and Ranma introduces Akane as his uncute fiancee Ukyou then decides that she will be Ranma's cute fiancee from now on.
 
Ranma's last fiancee is a girl named Kodachi Kuno.  Kodachi is a girl with MAJOR mental health problems.  Kodachi enjoys poisoning people especially Ranma.  Kodachi's betrothal to Ranma is completely self-styled (in other words her being Ranma's fourth fiancee is all in her sick little head). 

    With four very different fiancees all chasing after poor Ranma all the time fighting with each other and with Ranma not to mention all of his many numerous martial arts opponents and rivals his life has become anything but boring
