Rumiko Takahashi-sama
Well first off I think that I will start with one of my favorite animators from (at least as far as I'm concerned) one of japans best animators and story writers Rumiko Takahashi sama (if you don't know already the Japanese word "sama" is basically a term meaning godlike or used when a servant would address a master in my case I consider Rumiko Takahashi sama to be the goddess of anime and it is a title that she rightly deserves and trust me when I say that I am not the only one in america or in japan who believes the title should be hers ^_^).

Rumiko Takahashi's first major anime series is a story about a boy and his alien called Urusei Yatsura.  A romantic slap-stick comedy Urusei Yatsura is a fun but old series originally released between the late 70's to late 80's.

Of course Rumiko Takahashi made many other Anime's but the one anime that gave her the popularity of being known world wide is her great series (also it has been my all time favorite anime since I was 12 and it still is my fav anime #_#).  Rumiko Takahashi's Ranma 1/2.  A story about a Boy, a Ancient Chinese Curse, 4 Fiancees and a Whole Lot of Martial Arts Action.

Rumiko Takahashi's last major anime was more of a love story then a comedy but there are quite a few really funny slap-stick comedy bits it is a story about Boy plus Recently Widowed Girl minus nosy interfering neighbors divided by old run down apartment building.  Maison Ikkoku is one Rumiko Takahashi's latest last animes.

Rumiko Takahashi's latest anime is a story about modern girl stuck in feudal japan and a half human half demon who is forced to protect her to track down pieces of a magical gem that gives tremendous power to evil monsters.
