Who are We?
We are Carl, Elizabeth, Emily and Elise Watkins. If we must describe ourselves in one paragraph, this is who we are. We are Christians, Southern Baptists, and have been homeschooling for 3 1/2 years. Allen, Texas has been our home for over seventeen years, but our dream is to live in the mountains. Well, as long as there is DSL internet service, a conservative Southern Baptist Church, a homeschool support group, and a library with twenty miles!

How did SBCHEA begin?
Elizabeth began a church-based homeschool ministry in Allen, Texas during the summer of 2002. It was while doing research on Southern Baptists and homeschooling, that she found this article, by General T. C. Pinckney, dated September 18, 2001. We Are Losing Our Children.
"The ideal, most biblical solution is for parents to teach their children, to be home schoolers. All our churches should welcome and openly encourage home-schoolers."
This article was the beginning of SBCHEA, although no one realized it at the time. After the debate over the Christian Education Resolution, at the 2004 SBC Annual Convention, there began an intense grassroots effort to encourage and unite the Southern Baptist homeschooling community.
