WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CIVIL AND POLITICAL RIGHTS AND ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, AND CULTURAL RIGHTS?

CIVIL & POLITICAL RIGHTS 

  • the right to life

  • the right to liberty

  • the right to security

  • the right to privacy

  • no slavery or torture

  • peaceful assembly

  • equality before the law

  • no arbitrary arrest

  • no exile or detention 

  • fair trial

  • right to marriage

  • free thought

  • free conscience 

  •  free opinion

  • free expression

  • freedom of religion

  • peaceful assembly

  • participation in government

ECONOMIC, SOCIAL. AND CULTURAL RIGHTS

  • right to work

  • equal pay for equal work

  • right to form and join unions

  • favorable conditions of work

  • adequate standard of living (food, clothing and housing)

  • education

  • participate in cultural life

  • recreation and leisure time

  • social security

  • protection of family

  • highest-attainable standard of physical and mental health

  • no discrimination on the basis of race or gender
