In painting whether it is modern or traditional paintings it has a certain group of admirers and collectors. Basically people don't prefer the same food they want to eat and enjoy the same things in life. In the same way some people buy and enjoy viewing modern painting to stimulate their intellect by absorbing the underlying meaning of colors and puzzling abstract forms, interpretation or ideas presented by modern arts. On the other hand, other people simply want to relax and view the preserved artistic replica of nature, the memories of an environment, the exciting beauty of human anatomy, the drama of human history that commonly presented in realistic paintings. It's a matter of choice at certain time of different needs. Artist is no different to a manufacturer who produce items to fill the certain needs of consumers. The choice is for the maker which kind of people they preferred to pleased." |
| Realist and Modernist In realism, the realist artist can be easily subjected and criticize for imperfection from the universally accepted fundamentals & principles that applied in traditional painting. Realist must be an observant of natures, storyteller and must devote time for excellent craftsmanship so they may able transform what they have seen and feel. Most successful in realism like Rembrandt, William Bouguereau and many others were able to capture some elements of a picture that a camera cannot do that makes a painting more expensive than a photograph. On the other hand modern artists in general cannot be faulted in what they are painted. No one can directly criticize a modern painting. Somebody may relatively just like it or hate it. True modern art principles are based and mainly guided by individualistic approach. Most successful modernist shown an innovative approach in painting as exemplefied by most successful modern artists like Picasso, Van Gough, Monet and many others that express and painted in an individualistic manners and principles that makes their works truly unique and new. But some group of people both in Art business, Art critics and Artists themselves are divided in defining the Art, it's purpose and social role of the artist. Consequently caused confusion especially to neophytes in the world of fine arts. |

| Art Principles & Training Artists themselves especially beginners and students should not be confused what category and style is the best. Anyone can freely aspire and choose which category they really like. But training in painting must be specific in which category the artist would like to be developed? Be a modern or a traditional artist? This question must be answered clearly by the art student before going any further to do an extensive training and study; this will help the aspiring artist to avoid the unnecessary efforts and expenses. The art student can concentrate only the most essentials in developing their skills and their artistic preferences. A good realist student painter, must first study seriously the basics of Drawings such as The proportion of Human anatomy, Perspective, the interplay of Composition, the importance of Color Values and other technical aspect that requisite in realism and a backbone of realistic painting. These principles may not technically necessary to an individual student who choose the modern arts which has a different technic to follow. |
