Welcome to our new unit's homepage.  As you can probably guess, the new unit we will be studying is on government.  I have many exciting things planned for this unit.  Since this unit hasn't begun, check out the links to learn more about what we are going to learn throughout the unit.  Also check what we did last year with this unit and the fun and games section!

Parents and Students: I encourage you to check this site weekly for updates as we get further along in our unit.  You can also check out the newsletters link to get an idea of what we did in class per week.  Also check out the fun and games link to practice vocabulary words, study for the unit test, or unscramble pictures!

Teachers: Please click here for a list of resources used to design this site.
Throughout this unit, students will gain a meaning of community.  This unit focuses on our country today.  It introduces the idea of government to students and provides them with information on how the different levels of government (local, state, and federal) are run.  In addition, students will also learn about the election process and voting.  Students will be able to participate and share their ideas throughout the unit.  They will have a chance to design and create their own community, which will also tie in with brief geography lessons on mapping.  Moreover, students will get a chance to run an election by selecting classmates to run for public office (Present).  Therefore, this unit will provide students with an idea of how they can make a difference in their community!

Students will get a chance to use Internet Workshops as a way to track and record the progress of the canidates running for the 2008 election.  Students will also get a chance to run in their own classroom election for classroom President.

Students: Check the "Internet Workshops" link every Monday to see what the new activity is for the week!
