FINE ART SCHOOL .COM INTRODUCTION

Fine Art School. Com was intially conceived as a CD Rom and book project back in 1995 (remember that supposed revolution?). The idea was to create a multimedia art school, solidly based on the Classical tradition, yet not orientated towards the usual "traditional" cliche of reactionary but skillful fuddy duddys pleading for the art world to return to 19th century still life and history painting!
(The Classical tradition is so called because it is a large body of ideas and concepts that scholars tell us has been passed down since "Classical" times- from the sculptors and painters of Ancient Eygpt, Greece, Rome, Medieval Europe, the Renaissance and through to modern times.
It is in essence a way of training the mind, eye and hand to think sculpturally about the visible and invisible world, to literally construct figures and things on paper and canvas and stone from the inside out. It is a tradition of training the visual intelligence of the artist over a long period so that he/she thinks in 3D at all times.)

As an artist I have always been right into all the modern "isms", eg Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Modernism and its attendant Cubism, Dadaism, Surrealism, Expressionism, not so sure about Post Modernism and Conceptual (ism?) Art.
I have a real problem with the idea that "Skill doesnt matter" and "Everyones an artist" (and I suppose everyones a musician? Really doubt it.)
(Something often overlooked is the fact that a large percentage of the great artists of the 20th Century had a classical training before they went on to new heights of artistic creativity!)
I really dig underground comics and adult comics (comix) in general, and especially love good European work and love Japanese Manga despite the language barrier (thank god for Lone Wolf and Cub).
And then theres computers... Getting better all the time, and, well, if Morpheus is right an all, this is a really exciting time!

So the idea was to make available as much of the existing knowledge on the Classical tradition and other cool art stuff as possible, in short to create the sort of free resource I wish someone had of set up for me when I started out (not that I'm whinging (whingey whinge whin.....urrk!).
