| Throughout my life I have always had a great appreciation for music. This may be partially the result of living in a family with a great deal of musical background. At the age of seven I began playing the violin, soon after I played the cello and the piano. I quit at the age of 13 because I no longer wanted to be told what to do and my dad said I could quit if I learned a different instrument. So I convinced my dad to buy me a electric guitar with no intentions of playing at that timeand after I didnt play after a few months he got the point. Unfortunately I really did want to play the guitar but was fed up with music at this time. Only within the last couple months did I finally begin to play on my guitarit just took me a while to get to. Over the years I have integrated my experiences with my perception of music and have developed a standard that only a very few artists live up to. My biggest influence in music has come from the group Tool, this band represents the very essence of what music should be, an art. Just like any an other art that utilizes another sense it should provoke feelings and emotions, inspire, and portray a meaning while transending current idealogies. Unfortunately most people are opposed to an expressive medium that challenges their train of thought and their security, for most people they believe "it's just easier not to think about it", in addition there is a whole culture of engineered music that display the characteristics of the mainstream demand as they are put out simiply for the faulty incentive of money and fame...that is not music...and of course our ignorant society rejoices these talentless "artists"....fuck that. Well below are a few lyrics that express the depth of some true artists insight, but the real depth is in the music its self....sorry no Nelly here. | ||||||||||||||||
| Some of my favorite Tool lyrics in music: | ||||||||||||||||
| We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment,
We are choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside
This holy reality, this holy experience.
... Twirling round with this familiar parable. Spinning, weaving round each new experience. Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing. |

| I embrace my desire to
feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow to feel inspired, to fathom the power, to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain, to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human. |

| So crucify the ego, before it's far too late
To leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical, And you will come to find that we are all one mind Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable. Just let the light touch you And let the words spill through And let them pass right through Bringing out our hope and reason ... before we pine away. |

| I don't want to be hostile.
I don't want to be dismal.
But I don't want to rot in an apathetic existance either. See ,I want to believe you, and I want to trust and I want to have faith to put away the dagger. But you lie, cheat, and steal. And yet I tolerate you. Veil of virtue hung to hide your method while I smile and laugh and dance and sing your praise and glory. Shroud of virtue hung to mask your stigma as I smile and laugh and dance and sing your glory while you lie, cheat, and steal. How can I tolerate you. Our guilt, our blame , I've been far too sympathetic. Our blood, our fault. I've been far too sympathetic. |
