The ego is a subconscious structure that takes incoming information (impute) and alters it dependent on what the individual�s character lacks. For example if an person is insecure about a certain aspect of themselves lets say, looks, then through the interpreting process of the ego it will alter your over all perception in the favor of the desired outcome. In doing so your ego is protecting your inner self by shielding you from the truth. Obviously people with a high degree of insecurity have very large egos. When people then avoid the truth it leads to unfavorable natures. So Maynard is saying to be touched by the light of truth and to let go of your insecurity and you will realize we are of one conscienceness.
