Adryene woke up to find herself tangled in her sheets, soaked with sweat. She was used to it now, of course, and was used to the nightmares as well. It was always the same dream. It hadn't changed for the past few nights, which was odd considering her nightmares were usually about her mother. She hand reached up and grabbed her locket, the once real piece of her mother she had left, now. She was puzzled, because she had no real memory of this dream, but it was all so real. She closed her eyes, but every time she tried to get to sleep, she just tossed and turned. His face was so clearly imprinted into her mind she couldn't. She had found herself in a small room, filled with mirrors, and was looking at herself at the one in front of her. She was wearing a long, yellow dress with gold trim. She had always thought that blue was her best color, but yellow suited her so well. The only thing she despised about her dress was the plunging neckline. She didn't enjoy plunging necklines. She heard the door behind her creak open, and saw a black haired man standing in front of her. He smiled at her, and she smiled back. She knew this man. Actually, he wasn't even a man, for he couldn't be more than fifteen. They seemed to be about the same age. He started to speak, but his voice was echoed, like that from a long lost memory.
"I hope you like the dress, Helga."
She found herself responding, but saying words she wasn't really saying at all.
"Godric, you know I love any dress you pick out for me."
He smiled. "Well, actually I wasn't the one who picked it out. Salazar did."
"Argh! You know I dont want to talk about him. It was hard enough having to choose between you, but having to live in this castle with you both is preposterous."
"I know, darling, but just think of what it will be like after their wedding. Then we can have ours."
"Let's just go dancing, Godric. If I have to go to another celebration ball for them I think I'll just go and puke." They were dancing know. It seemed the dream had done a fast forward like on her DVD. A man was staring at her intently across the ballroom floor, his blond hair glistening in the candlelight. She recognized him too, just like Godric. This was Salazar. Standing to next to him was a woman with brown hair. She must be Rowena. They seemed to suit each other perfectly, but Salazar was staring at her so intently while Rowena was talking to another woman, that it made a chill go down her spine. Godric was talking to her, but she couldn't hear what he said very well. She moved him to block her view of Salazar, and it made her feel somewhat better. Suddenly, Godric's grip slipped, and he sank to the ground. Standing behind him with a sharp dagger edged in blood in hand was Salazar. He was laughing. Adryene was screaming, "Godric, Oh Godric!" She nealt by him, but Godric rose, only to unsheathe his dagger and turn around to plunge it into Salazar's chest. It was then that she noticed a large flesh wound in Godric's back, bleeding profusely on his crimson tunic. Then both men staggered and fell to the ground. Rowena was screaming now as well. She and Rowena were kneeling by their injured lovers, and suddenly Adryene found her dream self speaking.
"Rowena, we can make the potion now, before it's too late. We might be able to save them."
Rowena hesitated, but said calmly, "Helga, that potion is supposed to be used on wounded animals, not humans. There's no proof it will work!"
"So we'll make it work! I'm not losing Godric, not after all I've done to him! Do you want to lose Salazar as well?!"
"All right." Rowena held her wrist to her mouth, biting at the flesh until blood poured out of her artery. She plucked a vial out of her belt with her good hand, and filled it a quarter full with her blood. Adryene's dreams self had unsheathed her own dagger, and slit her wrist as well. She filled the vial so it was half full. Then she dipped it into the pool of blood surrounding Godric's unconscious body, and gave it back to Rowena who did the same with Salazar. They did all of this with the other guests watching in awe and horror. Then the dream had ended, Adryene only to find herself waking to impossible questions and no living answers. |
