Cell Membrane

from: http://cellbio.utmb.edu/cellbio/membrane.htm

The cell membranes primary function is to act as protection.  It regulates the transport of proteins in and out of the cell and allows selective signals to provide places for binding of signaling molecules by having a semi-permeable membrane.  It also allows the cell to be recognized within the structure.
