ALONZO CLEMENS, A NATIVE OF WOOD - Wayne, April 2 - Death entered the home of a former Wood County resident, Alonzo Clemens, when he and his wife died within 8 hours. They were the victims of influenza and complications. Mr. Clemens died at 1:00 P.M. and his wife at 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 21, at their home , 624 N. Sheldon St., Charlotte, Mich. Double services were held from Cheney Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon H. Beardsley of the United Brethren Church officiating. Burial was in the Gresham Cemetery. Mr. Clemens was born Jan. 19, 1869 in Wood Co. to John and Elizabeth Clemens. He was married to Rhoda Annie Esterly on March 12, 1889. To this union were born 5 children: Mrs. Chas. Gobel, of Bloomdale; Mrs. Ivah Zingery, of Shepard; and Mrs. Alma Metzler, of St. Louis, Mich; John, of Charlotte; and Omer, of Lapier, Mich. The mother died Sept. 15, 1933, at Gresham, Mich., where they had moved in 1910. Besides his children, Mr. Clemens is survived by grandchildren, great- grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Lillian Tyson of Wayne. Mr. Clemens was a retired farmer. Five years ago Mr. Clemens married Mrs. Myrtle Williams of Eaton County, Mich. She is survived by a son, Grand Williams, two brothers, Claude and Loren Strickland and two half brothers, Mahlon and Lewis Strickland, of Lansing, Mich.

Mrs. Alma E. Netzley, 70, of rural St. Louis, passed away Friday morning , February 7, at the Gratiot Community Medical Center in Alma, where she had been for six months. Mrs. Netzley was born in Wood County, Ohio, on April 13, 1898, the daughter of Rhoda and Alonzo Clemens, and in 1910 the family moved to Isabella County. In Shepherd, on November 10, 1917 she was married to Ora S. Netzley of Isabella County and they have since farmed in that county. Surviving are her husband, Ora S.; two sons, Maynard and Max, both of rural St. Louis; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Gobel of Bloomdale, Ohio; Mrs. Roy Zingery of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, John Clemens of Charlotte; Omar Clemens of Lapeer; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 10 from the Carter Funeral home in St. Louis. The Rev. Lester Priest of Shepherd officiated and interment was at Salt River Cemetery at Shepherd.

Mrs. Lillian D. Tyson, 94, formerly of Wayne and a resident of the Bowling Green Manor Nursing Home, died Saturday in Wood County Hospital. She was a member of the Wayne United Methodist Church and the Women's Society of Christian Service, and a former member of the Relief Corps and Rebekah lodge. She was born June 1, 1888 in Portage Township to Mr. and Mrs. John W. Clemens (Elizabeth Palmerton). She married Charles D. Tyson in 1907 in Wayne and he died in 1955. Surviving are one son, John C., Wayne; four daughters, Mrs. Vondale Sherman, Wayne; Mrs. V. Ferne Whitacre, Tampa, Fla.; Mrs. Cecil Rae Whitacre, Fort Myers, Fla.; and Mrs. Mary Basel, Bradner; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the church, with burial in Mount Zion Cemetery. The Rev. Rick Schlosser will officiate. He will be assisted by Rev. Robert Whitacre and Rev. Terry McGiffin, both grandsons of Mrs. Tyson. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Barndt Funeral Home, Wayne. The body will lie in state at the church from noon until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the church.
