40 | Comments | This has been an awesome engine for how small it is in a 'heavier' SB. Plenty of bottom end and still revs up to 6k in 1st through 3rd gears - haven't tried in 4th. Easily spins the 205s off the line if you want to, 2nd gear chirps are easy as well. Only non-turbo'd rice that's beat me so far had to break 100mph to do it so stop light racing is really fun. I've even taken my fair share of V8s. I get about 22-23 mpg in the city and about 29-30 mpg on the freeway. Overheating is only an issue when it's over 100F outside, pull the decklid and I'm fine if I keep it under 70mph. Anymore and adding an ext. oil cooler would be a good idea. Exhaust choice makes this a loud engine when cruising on the highway, slight ringing in the ears isn't uncommon after 1hr or more. Dynomat would fix that. Only thing I would change about this combo is going with those new Super HD aluminum pushrods good to 450lbs of spring pressure. It would all but eliminate that annoying valve clatter you get with chromoly PRs. The heads would also love to have more valve lift than an E110 can provide, but I haven't tried it yet. |
