40 | Comments | This motor is basically a race motor with low compression so it will run on the street and will use premium pump gas. It drives very well but if you floor it the cam does not let the motor make good power till 5000 rpm. Then you better hold on. it revs to 7300. Its very smooth at lower rpms and drives the street no problem. It does not load up or foul plugs. If race it I launch it at 6000 or so depending on traction. It pulls the front wheels with ease and sometimes a bit too high. Its a ball to drive but the car is very noisy and can't be driven far without earplugs. This motor was bought used from a friend of mine who drove it in his Ghia daily and sometimes a couple hundred miles a day. The Ghia had a 5 speed and was capable of 140MPH with this motor. I used it for a couple of years and then one day it broke an exhaust valve and that was it. It has all Manley valves except for the one that broke. Moral of the story is,don't use cheap valves. Even one can ruin your day. I have lots of other motors, like my 2332 ,120 cam 48 Dellorto motor in my 71 Bus also. |
