| Title: Lost Author: Isabelledream Email: [email protected] Category: Michael and Isabel Rating: PG-13?? ( I really don't know.) Summary: My own version of the S3. Disclaimer: Roswell isn't mine and neither is the song Higher by Creed. Part 12 ************************************* Silence. There are no words to be spoken. They still can't believe that this is really happening. But it's true. They are all there, at the Valentis' house, staring at Max as he heals Kyle. Silence. Liz and Maria are breaking down in tears. How could this happen? Why do these things keep happening to them? When are these things going to stop? Why must there be so much pain? Jim is beside Max and Kyle, holding his son's hands. "Kyle, please, my son. Hold on." Max is pale and his hands are shivering. It was horrible. They found Kyle almost dead and Isabel...They couldn't find her. He is so afraid of what might have happened with his sister that he is having problems healing Kyle. He's doing his best but images of Isabel as a child playing with him keep appearing to him. Michael is sitting in the corner, head down. He looks trashed. He is fighting against himself now. He is fighting against the pain that is tearing his heart up. He is fighting against the cold feeling that is freezing his soul. He can't breathe, he can't move, he can't think. He needs to find her. It's all his fault. He should have gone after her. No, he should have stopped her before, stopped that stupid wedding. Oh, it hurts, it hurts so much. He is dying within. The silence is finally broken by Kyle's scream. Max falls back, exhausted. "Kyle. Oh, thank God you are ok, my son." Jim embraces his son, tears in his eyes. Kyle has a lost expression on his face as his father embraces him. He is still trying to understand what is going on. Max healed him again. Why? Oh no, Isabel. Kyle feels his father releasing him but before he can do anything he feels himself being grabbed by a strong hand. This time it's not a friendly hug. "Where is she, Valenti? Tell me now. Where is Isabel?" Michael yells, shaking Kyle. "They-they took her." " Who?!" "..." "Who took her? And to where?" "I-I don't know," Kyle replies almost suffocating. "Michael, what are you doing?" Maria yells at him. Jim tries to stop Michael with the help of Max. "Michael, let him go!" Max holds Michael's arm firmly. Michael releases Kyle, turning back and passing his hands through his hair nervously, starting to pace the floor. Everybody stares at him. "Kyle, are you OK?" Liz goes to him. Kyle just nods still staring at Michael. "I'm sorry, Michael. Max. I couldn't do anything to stop them," Kyle says sadly. "It's not your fault, Kyle. But we need you to tell us everything that happened. Everything that can help us find her," Max ponders. "I-I was running after her but she was really fast. I thought that I would never be able to catch up with her when they appeared. Lots of them." "How many?" "About twenty, but I'm not sure." "Were they aliens? Skins?" "I don't know. They came out of these black vans and they were all in black too. They looked like humans, but the skins looked like humans too so I don't know. But they did use human weapons. Actually they shot me with one. I'm sorry but then I collapsed, I don't remember anything else, just Isabel calling my name before everything went black." "Aaahh!!!" Michael screams in fury, blowing up the Valentis' TV, startling them all. A scared Maria goes to his side but he backs off. "Michael!! Calm down!" Max warns him. He is really worried about Michael. He has never seen his friend so out of control. Worse, his powers are out of control too. He has just done a lot of damage in the street, blowing up a lot of cars. Luckily, he thinks no one saw them but the damage was too big. This will call more attention to Roswell, more attention to them. However what is really scaring him is that Michael could end up hurting himself. "Calm down?! Calm down?! I am calm, Maxwell. If I weren't calm I would have already blown up all this stupid city." And saying that more of the Valentis' furniture explode in the air. "I'm telling you, Maxwell. I'm going to find those bastards and make them regret this for the rest of their short lives. Because they won't live long when I get my hands on them." "I know how you feel, Michael, but I need you to calm down. I need you to help me, Michael. We have to find her and I can't do this alone, Ok? It's too much. I don't know what do, not without her. She has always been there to tell us what to do. Just her presence gave me confidence to go on. When I was in trouble in the white room and in New York she came to me, she saved me. And now she is the one in danger and I don't know how to help her, I don't know what she is going through and just the thought that she might be...it's killing me. So, please, Michael, calm down. I need you to help me to find her. I need to find Isabel," Max begs him, breaking down in tears. Michael stares at his best friend, his King, his family. All his words, the fear in them. It's the same fear that is filling himself. He wants to cry too, to scream, to just lie on the floor and die. But he can't. He must be strong now. For her. He embraces Max, in a strong and supportive hug. "I know, Max. We'll find her, I promise. I won't let anyone hurt her." "But how are we going to fing her?" Maria asks "We can try to contact her through her dreams, like she did with Max," Jim suggests. "It doesn't work like that," Michael says. "She's the only one that can do that." "Yeah. But maybe she'll try to contact us," Kyle replies. "And what if she can't, we can't just stay here waiting," Michael argues. "I can try to see if some old friends at the station can tell me something about these black vans. Maybe someone has seen something," Jim tells them. "By Khivar's name, you are so pathetic." Everybody turns back to see Nicholas, Lonnie and Rath on the doorway. Immediately Michael jumps on Nicholas, full of hate. "You little thing, what have you done with her?" Michael yells in his face, while his friends look at all this in shock and fear. After all this is Nicholas and the dupes. "It wasn't me." Nicholas grins. Lonnie and Rath just lean against the doorway with arms folded. "Don't lie to me, or I'll kill you right now." "Yeah-Yeah. Oh, please, give me a break. Do you really think that if I had Vilandra right now I would be here looking at your ugly face? Oh, please, I would be on my way home, taking her to Khivar. And you would be dead, of course." "You--" Michael is ready to finish with Nicholas but Lonnie uses her powers and sends him off. "Michael!!!" The others go to him. Lonnie steps forward in their direction but is stopped by Max, who builds his shield. Lonnie smiles. "Hey, Max, old brother, I know that we had our differences in the past but this is not the way to treat your sister." "You are not my sister, Lonnie. You'll never be." Max glares at her as he helps Michael stand up. "Hey, man. Don't talk to her like that," Rath comes complaining. "We are here to help." "Ha. Like we could believe that," Maria mocks, too confident in the power of Max's shield. "But you should. We are not with Vilandra-I mean Isabel. But we know where she is," Nicholas says while fixing his clothes. "And why should we trust you?" Liz asks "I guess you don't have other choice, do you, dear?" Michael glares at him. "And where is she?" Max asks apprehensively. "Well, let's say that she is on her honeymoon." Nicholas has a mischievous smile on his face. ************************************* "Uh. My head. What happened?" Isabel opens her eyes. They hurt due to the suddenly clarity. She feels her head, dizzy. Staggering, she tries to get up. She looks around her. It's all white. What's going on? She looks at herself. She is all in white, too. Is it a dream? No, she is wearing her dress, her wedding dress. All the latest events come to her like a flash: The wedding. The men in black. Kyle. "Oh, My God. Kyle." She starts to cry in despair. She collapses on the white floor, shivering nervously, having problems breathing. Kyle. Oh, God. He was shot. What if--Where am I? I know this place. I have been here before. No. I have seen it before. In Max's mind. The white room. I'm in the white room. Michael. Max. Someone help me. What-what did they do to me? My head, my body...Ow, it's so painful. Please, someone make it stop.ahh... A door opens. Isabel sees five shadows entering the room and coming closer to her. "Who are you? What do you want with me?" She fights the pain she is feeling and gets to her feet. "Stay back." She raises her hand but her powers don't work. She stares at her hand without understanding. Someone else comes into the room. "Hi darling. Ready for the honeymoon?" "Jesse??" Astonished, Isabel whispers. **************************************** "What do you mean? Honeymoon? She didn't even get married," Maria replies. "Oh my, you are slow, aren't you girlfriend?" Lonnie mutters. "She's with the Special Unit. Oh please, even Rath can understand that. No offense, honey." She kisses him. "Special Unit??" they all ask puzzled. "Of course, she would marry one of them." "Wait. You mean Jesse...Jesse is from the FBI?" Max can't believe what he is hearing. "Oh, sorry. Didn't you know that?" Lonnie and Rath grin enjoying the others' puzzled faces. They are having so much fun. Suddenly, a big noise echoes through the house. Everything explodes: the lamps, the plates, the table, the sofa, the windows. And part of the roof falls, too. "That bastard!!!I knew there was something wrong with him. I should have killed him when I had the chance!!! " "Easy, pal. If you kill us, we won't be able to kill him." Rath smirks. Nicholas looks carefully at Michael, thinking. 'His powers are stronger. Vilandra. The idiot loves her in this life, too. I wonder if he realizes that. I wonder if he realizes how much power this gives him, to her. This is dangerous, too dangerous. Now I see why Arcon is here, in this time. This is how everything started.' "Ok, we don't have time for this now. Yes, the special unit still exists. It has been around for 50 years and it wouldn't be that stupid Nasedo's plan that would stop them from hunting us. Yes, they hunt us. They killed your protectors, a lot of skins, they are after the dupes and yes they are after you and they know you are aliens. Yes, Jesse is one of their agents, sent here to capture Isabel since she seems to be the most vulnerable one, you know, her ex-boyfriend was dead, there were fights with her brother in the school's corridor, her best friend hasn't been looking her in the eyes anymore. Yes, those are you guys. Our Royal ones. I can't believe our people still wait for you. By the way, Max, your son sends his regards," Nicholas mocks. "You bastard." Max clenches his fists, he is losing his temper. "Max. No." Liz stops him. "Look. I don't have time for this, you know. I still have to think of a way to kill all of you after all this ends. They took her to a base, not too far from the one they took you to before. It's going to be a crazy move. These guys are really well-equipped. After 50 years studying us they know more about us than you do. You have no idea what a bunch of determined humans can do. Once we get there I can't guarantee that we will come back." "Why are you doing this, Nicholas? Why are you helping us? I thought that you wanted us dead," Max asks. Nicholas laughs. "I want you dead. Not her. If something happens to his precious Vilandra, Khivar will destroy this stupid planet with all of us on it, including myself. What can I say? Hundreds of suns' cycles and he is still blind for this woman." "We can't blame him, can we?" Rath comments, kissing Lonnie's neck who moans kissing him back. "So, are you going with us or not?" "Max, I don't like this," Jim warns him. Max nods. He don't like this either. He stares at Liz, Maria and Kyle. They look anxious, afraid. Then he stares at Michael. He is strange, pale and with a lost look. He seems to be in pain."Michael?" Michael can't hear Max. He knows Max is saying something but he can't hear it. His head is aching. He is in pain. No, it's not him. It's her. She is suffering. The pain is so intense. Knowing that it's her pain that he is feeling hurts more than if he was the one being hurt himself. He must go to her. He must make this pain go away. He wants to embrace her now. Tell her she is safe with him. That no one else is going to hurt her. But he can't and that is killing him, more and more. "Michael?" "We are going with them, Max," he says all of sudden. "I don't trust them, Michael." "Neither do I, but we don't have any other choice. We must bring her back. And I'll do everything that it takes to have her back." Nodding, Max turns to Nicholas and the dupes. "Show us the way." Rath and Lonnie exchange looks while Nicholas grins. The three turn to leave. Michael follows them while Max kisses Liz goodbye. "I'll come back, I promise," Max whispers to her. Crying, Liz nods. "I'll go with you, Max." Jim says. "No, we don't know what will happen. I need you to stay here and take care of them for me." "I will, Max. I will." Jim nods sadly. "Michael, wait." Maria runs to him. "Please, don't go. You heard what Nicholas said. This is a suicide operation." Michael faces her, looking straight on her eyes. "I guess I'll die for her, then," he says serene. Maria stares at him with her eyes filled with tears. "I'm sorry." He kisses her forehead and gets into Max's car and then they leave, following Nicholas, Rath and Lonnie. ************************************* "Jesse??" "Special agent Jesse, to be exact. I forgot to tell you that, didn't I, honey? Well, I guess we're even 'cause you forgot to tell me that you are an alien. But that's Ok, because I already knew that." "You...You mean that all this time. It was all a lie. How could you have done this to me? I believed in you. I trusted you. God! I almost married you." She breaks down in tears again. She can't believe what is happening to her. Why her? Why can't she live a normal life? The man that she thought she could love, she thought she could learn how to love. That man. No that man doesn't exist. It was all fake. All a big lie. How could she be so blind? So stupid? Oh, the pain. The pain is killing her. She can't stand anymore. She falls to her knees. "What have you done to me?" "We call it X-47. It's a formula our scientists have been developing for years. It's killing your cells. That's why you can't use your powers, you are dying," he replies coldly. "Why are you doing this to me?" Isabel whispers. "Why? You know why. We want answers. Answers that we have been searching for for fifty years. Who are you? What do you and your alien friends want on our planet? Is this an invasion? Do you want to conquer our planet? The ones that came before me died without having those answers. But I won't. We have studied your people. Studied you. Why are you different? First, there are the ones like Nasedo, then the ones that are called Skins. Then there's you, Max and Michael and the ones that look just like you in New York. Why all these differences? More, why do you have so many humans features? Tell me," he yells grabbing her, hurting her. "Tell me, who are you?" "Ahh!" Isabel cries out. "I don't know what you are talking about. I'm Isabel Evans. Isabel Evans." "Stop lying." He slaps her face. "Nooo!" Michael. Michael. I'll never see him again. I'll never have the chance to say how important he is to me. How I love him, how I always will. No. I must be strong. He is coming. I know he is. He will save me. I can feel it. He will take care of me. I know he will. "You were one of that kids, weren't you? You are one of those kids from the first ship that fell in 1947. The military found two strange sets with what seemed to be human embryos. But they lost them. Two sets, four embryos in each one. Eight kids. Max, you, Michael and the girl Nasedo protected are one set. Those idiots in New York are the other." Isabel stares at him puzzled. How could he know all of this? "Are you asking yourself how we know all of this? Oh, please what do you aliens take us for? Stupid? We are humans. You thought that you could just fall into our garden like that. You are a plague that has to be exterminated. And to do that we first had to study you, watch you. Yes, we've been watching you. Or did you think that three children found in the desert didn't catch our attention? But I must say that you've got good protectors. Every time we tried to reach you in Roswell, our guys ended up dead. But your brother saving the Parker girl confirmed all our suspicions, and not to mention the fact that the other aliens we'd been hunting had the same faces as yours. Then you guys helped us, exposing yourselves more than we could ask for. But our units in New York were having problems with your dupes, they sure know how to hide themselves better than your team. Also they like to kill our agents. And the ones you call skins were also a big problem. We sure killed a lot them but there's always more. You know what the problem is with your people, honey? They don't like to talk. Every time we captured a skin and tortured them to have some answers they just kept saying: "Granolith-Granolith." It was like a prayer before they killed themselves. I wonder what the Granolith is. You don't know anything about that, do you, honey? You know, if you tell me some good stories maybe we don't kill you now, maybe we keep you for some time before we dissect you for our studies. Huh? What do you say, my love?" Jesse lifts her chin, making her look straight at his cold eyes. Isabel glares at him and mocks, " What can I say? You guys from the FBI must be watching a lot of movies. You want to know who am I? I'll tell you. I'm the girl that left you at the altar, or have you already forgotten that, you idiot?" He slaps her again but this time Isabel holds her own, glaring at him. "You are coward." Jesse grins, making his way to leave the white room. "You won't get away with this. Max and Michael will come after me," she yells. "Take care of her." Two men in black hold her while some scientists come into the room. "Noo.Noo" she screams while they inject her with more X-47. She passes out instantly. ********************* "No," Michael gasps. "Michael, what's wrong?" Max asks. Michael doesn't answer. He just keeps looking down the hill to the the military base where Nicholas told them Isabel is. Max sighs. He still can't understand too well what is happening with Michael. First, at the church he knew Isabel was in danger. How? Then his powers and the look on his face. It's like he knew something. Felt something that everybody else couldn't. He remembers that Tess once said something about that. That they could feel each other because as mates they were somehow connected. But he never felt anything. Tess was once captured by Whitaker and if it wasn't for Isabel, they would never have known that. So, what is going on with Michael? Is it possible that-- "We have to run, Max," Michael interrupts Max's thoughts. Max hesitates. "Michael? Wait. We can't do this. This plan is crazy. This is going to change everything. This is how Nicholas solves things, not us. We are not like this." Michael punches him in the face. "Wake up, Maxwell. Things have already changed. You are the one that keeps denying it. Damn, Maxwell, I can't believe that you have to think twice about this. This is Isabel we are talking about. It's them or her. I choose her." Max, speechless, rubs his face staring at Michael, letting his words sink in. The two hybrids hear some explosions and turn their attention back to the base. Nicholas, Lonnie and Rath have already started with the plan, which is quite simple: Annihilate the enemy, keeping them busy long enough for Michael and Max to save Isabel. Michael sighs. He turns back to Max and softy he says, "I can't lose her." Max looks at him, startled. Michael's words penetrate deep in his soul, bringing an uneasy feeling. He knows these words. It was a long time ago. He knows their true meaning. Love, hope and faith. Isabel. Michael is right. How could he hesitate? This is Isabel. His sister. His beloved sister. He can't lose her either. He can't. "Let's go." Michael nods. The two walk side by side in the direction of the base, ready to do anything to save Isabel. Anything. ***************** When dreaming I'm guided through another world Time and time again At sunrise I fight to stay asleep 'Cause I don't want to leave the comfort of this place Michael explodes another wall. Another group of soldiers appears to stop them. 'Cause there's a hunger, a longing to escape From the life I live when I'm awake Max builds his shield stopping the hundreds of bullets that come in their direction. So let's go there Let's make our escape Come on, let's go there Let's ask can we stay? Michael uses his powers to blow up their guns. Can you take me higher? To the place where blind men see Can you take me higher? To the place with golden streets ***** Outside, Lonnie and Rath are using their powers, killing a lot of people. But strangely, Nicholas is not with them. Where is he? From a hidden place, Will observes the dupes but his mind is far way. He can feel her pain. He was there when they took her, he could have stopped them with just a gesture, but he didn't. He knows that's the way things are supposed to be, but it still hurts him more than anything else could. "Waiting for me?" Will turns abruptly, just to be face to face with Arcon. ************************** Although I would like our world to change It helps me to appreciate Those nights and those dreams But, my friend, I'd sacrifice all those nights If I could make the Earth and my dreams the same Max and Michael are running. "According to that guy whose mind Nicholas read, she is that way." Max points to the left. "Ok. So, let's go." Michael yells but around thirty men in black appear before them. Furious, Michael releases his power but Max builds his shield protecting the enemy. "What's this, Maxwell?" Max shakes his head. "Go and get her. I'll hold them." "But?" Michael complains. "Go!!" Max shouts. Michael hesitates. In a way he understands Max, his need to keep things like they are. Max can't see humans as the enemy because he sees himself as a human. He thinks that if he kills them this would make him less human. Bullshit. The trouble is that Max is so concerned about being a human or alien that he forgets who he is. He is Max and nothing is going to change that. But Michael doesn't have time to be like Max, he doesn't have time to think about what he is doing and who he is, all he knows is that without Isabel he is nothing, he has to save Isabel, his Isabel is more important than anything now. Michael runs. He blows up the white room's door. His heart skips a beat when he sees her there, collapsed on the floor. She looks so fragile. He runs to her. The only difference is To let love replace all our hate "Isabel. Isabel. Are you listening me? Please, Iz." She is cold, so cold. He can barely feel her pulse. Her beautiful face is now so pale that it looks like snow. He is losing her. No, he can't accept that. He can't lose her. He won't lose her again. He takes his jacket off, covering her with it. "Iz. Please. Don't leave me. You promised me. You said that I would never lose you. That you'd always be there fo me. Please, Iz." He embraces her, caressing her face, while he lets his tears flow. Isabel opens her eyes sligtly. "Michael?" "Iz. Oh, Iz." He embraces her tightly, afraid of letting her go. "I knew you would come," she barely whispers. "Shh.I'm here now. I'll take care of you. You are going to be Ok." "I'm so tired." "It's Ok. It's Ok. Max is going to heal you. You are going to be all right." He takes her in his arms. He needs to take her out of this hell now. "Going somewhere?" Jesse arrives with ten other agents. "Get out of my way, Ramirez," He says coldly. Michael has never hated someone so much in all this life. He is breathing heavy. His fury is emanating from all his being. His eyes show deadly hate. He is about to explode. " Why all this hurry? She is going to die anyway and so are you. Fire!!!" Jesse shouts. The agents squeeze their triggers. "I said get out of my way!" When Michael yells, thousands of explosions echo through all the base. So let's go there Let's make our escape Come on, let's go there Let's ask can we stay? *************************** The ceiling is falling down, the light goes off, the electronic equipment is exploding and computers are shutting down. Afraid, the men Max is holding up with his shield run to all sides. A wall falls beside him. "Oh no, Michael." Max runs in despair. ******************** Outside the base, on the top of the hill, William and Arcon are fighting. Their swords made of pure light go from one side to another in a tough dispute. The sound of the explosions call the attention of the two guys. Will stares at the confusion down there, worried about Isabel, Michael and Max as Arcon grins hoping that Nicholas has done everything like he said. The fight goes on. ************************* Max has some difficulty reaching the white room. There is fire and smoke everywhere, the place is burning up. Wait, he sees something. It's Michael and he is with Isabel. Max has tears of joy in his eyes. His family is safe. Michael runs to Max, carrying Isabel in his arms. "Let's go, Maxwell, this whole place is falling apart." "What happened, Michael?" Max asks looking at the place in fire. Up high I feel like I'm alive for the very first time Up high I'm strong enough to take these dreams And make them mine The only thing Michael can think about now is Isabel. "We have to take her out of here so you can heal her." Sadly, Max gives a last glance at the destroyed base before he nods at Michael. They must go now. What was done was done. They can't look back. There's no way back now. |
