Journey to uncover Yeesha's destiny and the story of the D'ni's future.
Explore the stunning worlds in this expansion of the epic adventure that
is Uru.
When Uru Live was cancelled, Cyan had a great deal of story left
to tell, and a great deal of content (Ages) which they had made, ready
to tell it. So, they decided to put aside their loss and make two expansion
packs which would conclude the Uru tale.
The Path of the Shell (as a product) includes both itself, and
the first expansion To D'ni, and installs over the top of Uru:
Ages Beyond Myst. It is incompatible with the old Uru Live
or the newer multiplayer mode Untěl Uru. (To D'ni was originally
packaged as a free download for Uru, but now that Path of the
Shell is out, it isn't necessary)
The expansions continue the Uru vision (they still have Relto,
ownable books, and "respawning"), but without being so focussed
on the upcoming multiplayer. As such, they play as a more focussed single-player
adventure than the original game.
First, Cyan put most of the Uru Live content in To D'ni
- allowing Myst players entry into the vast cavern for the very
first time in nearly eleven years. Included were the areas of Ae'gura,
Bevin, the Nexus and Rezeero from Uru Live, plus several new areas:
Kirel, Phil's Relto, and the Great Shaft. To D'ni basically transformed
the special multiplayer content (such as the Nexus, the KI and the 'hoods)
into a single-player adventure, complete with a new story about the DRC
evacuating D'ni.
Then, in the final expansion, The Path of the Shell, the sprawling
ages of Rolep, Er'cana and Ahnonay were opened to all players for the
first time, as players followed Yeesha's mysterious new quest of deception
and, er, shells, leading us right back to where we began, with a few surprises
along the way.
Also includes the first expansion pack, To D'ni
