| William David "Dave" Umphlett was born June 4, 1853 to Elijah Umphlett and Louisa Brown Umphlett. He was a farmer and married Nancy "Nannie" Landing, who was born July 25, 1855 to Taylor Landing and Penniah Sparkman Landing. William was listed in the 1860 & 1870 Hall Township Census records and in 1880 with his wife, Nanny and children Caroline and Mills. At the time they were living between his mother Louisa and Adolphus Eure. Dave was shot and killed on July 4, 1893 at the old train depot in Eure. A man getting off the train mistook him for someone else and shot and killed him. He was buried in Cool Spring Cemetery in Eure, NC. |

| Nanny was listed in the 1910 Hall Township Census with her children: Effie, Estelle, Beulah, & Clyde. In the 1920 Hall Township Census Nanny was listed as living with her daughter Effie on Ray's Beach Road in Eure, NC. At the time they had two boarders, Willie R. Holland and (Female) Brown. They lived in between Joseph Harrell and Darsey Umphlett (her brother-in-law). The following were the children of William David Umphlett & Nancy Landing Umphlett: 1 - Caroline 2 - W.
