Raised Center Hall Homes
Raised Center Hall Homes:

Where you'll find it:
In the American parts of town:
Garden District, Irish Channel, Lower Garden District, and Uptown.

What does it look like:
Some say this is the American version of the Creole Cottage....maybe as Emeril says, they 'kicked it up a notch'.
The Raised Center Hall homes that fill the American Sector of New Orleans are often gorgeous mansions that line St. Charles Avenue and fill the Garen District.  Ok, I'm being a bit biased
as this is my favorite styled home.

A one and one-half story home raised anywhere from two to
eight feet above ground level on brick piers.  All have a full
porch with 4 to 6 columns holding up the usually Greek-revival type roof with windows on either side of the front door that is always in the middle.  The interior is exactly as stated - a center hall lays between two front galleries.  All have side-gabled roofs and most have a central dormer over the front porch.  Most were built in the early to late 1800s.   Most are made of wood/stucco combination.  1803-1870.
