RETURN TO NEW ORLEANS NEIGHBORHOODS
the Irish Channel

Historically this part of the city was known for its large Irish and
German immigrant families who lived within its boundaries and was
the workingclass' answer to the Garden District.  Today, the Irish Channel
is home to many singles, couples, and families of every background, race,
and nationality.  Commercial development of the Irish Channel is primarily along the river-side of Magazine Street, and some industrial development remains along the Tchoupitoulas corridor.   The area closer to Magazine
has been greatly revitalized and is home to many artistic, funky and "hip" singles and couples (both straight and gay), and enjoys an active
neighborhood association.
