Where it all began...
Uncle Jake started his cupcake bakery out of his one bedroom apartment. At first, his plan was to bake cupcakes and other desserts for his friends and family. There were compliments galore when it came to his delicious baked goods.
Before he knew it, there were many people who were enlisting Uncle Jake as their main baker for parties and larger events. As the orders kept coming in, Uncle Jake decided it was time to open up his very own store front.
Fast forward about 3 years, and Uncle Jake's Bakes storefront stands on the corner of North First St and Rio Robles, in San Jose, California.
Because of a passion for baking and the overwhelming demand, Uncle Jake's Bakes has been a destination for your sweet-tooth fix.
We are so glad you have visited us at Uncle Jake's Bakes. This website is designed to allow you to navigate through all the "happenings" at Uncle Jake's. There are events and recipes to help you stay in touch as well as bringing some of Jake's Bakes into your own home. The home page welcomes you into the world of Uncle Jake's Bakes. Head on over to the events page and you will find the latest events where Uncle Jake will be reaching out to the community such as Farmer's Markets and Night Markets. The latest recipes are featured on the Recipes page so you can make some of the different cupcakes and treats at home! And of course we'd love to keep in touch, so you can find our contact information on the Contact page. The navigation bar at the top of every page allows for you to browse and have quick access to each of the pages within this website.
I have chosen to present Uncle Jake's Bakes with a "template" type format so each page structure is the same, and offers the information pertinent to the title of that page. I feel that being able to navigate around on pages that look familiar makes it easier to find what you are looking for and allows the user to be comfortable within the website. The font type and the color choice for the navigation bar as well as the background color and borders for each of the type areas were chosen because when I think of cupcakes and bakeries, I think of sprinkles and light, soft pastels. Because my audience is aimed toward females in their mid early twenties and mothers who are looking to purchase sweets for events, the pink and white colors fit well for that demographic. By embedding the videos on the pages, I feel I have added an interactive element to the website.
If I had more time and resources, I would have liked to add more color and more content. I feel that the website is very simple. My own websites that I use on WordPress, I used templates to create, so the HTML was provided for me and I just needed to plug and play, but they felt more complete, and more cohesive. There were more "accessories" I guess you could say. A side bar with a profile picture, or a few links to social media pages, a mailing list, etc. would be ways that I would spruce up the page a bit.
