Computer Conflict
Chapter Two
Losing Sense of Time
When Justyn awoke the next morning he was a little surprised to find that Mary's side of the bed had not been slept on at all. He thought that with the excitement of the new computer, she probably fell asleep on the bed in the computer room. So he got up and got dressed and proceeded downstairs to get some coffee and to wake Mary. As he got almost to the bottom of the stairs he could hear Mary laughing, and it sounded like she was in the computer room. The computer room door was only open a little, so Justyn pushed it open all the way and noticed Mary was sitting in the desk chair still wearing the same clothes she had worn last night. He walked over behind her and noticed she was typing rather rapidly and still laughing. He looked to the screen and seen it was some sort of a "chat room", (he had used chat rooms before at work, so was familiar with them). At the top of the page it said, " Family Roots Chat ", and it seemed as if the content of conversation was about genealogy. Justyn was thinking, "At least this is a safe type of chat room for Mary to be in, as long as she understood what information not to give out". He said, "Good Morning, Darling, been at it all night?". Mary jumped a little as if startled and said, " No, it has only been a few hours since I came in here and you know it!". Then Justyn opened the heavy drapes on the only window in the room, Mary was totally shocked as she could see the sun rising in the distant. She then turned and look at the old Grandfather clock across the hall from the room's door, it was showing 6 o'clock. Had she really been swept up in the excitement so much that she had lost all sense of time? Yes she must have been as Justyn would not lie to her about it being morning and the clock on the computer itself said 6:01 AM, so it must be the right time. Mary quickly bid fairwell to all those in the chat room and closed out of it, then she proceeded to shut the computer down and turn it off. Justyn looked at Mary and asked her if she had used her real name in that chat room, and Mary said, "Yes, but just my first name, why?". Justyn quickly explained that it was best if she not give out information that might help someone locate her or be able to find where they lived as you could never know who the people in those chat rooms really were, they could be criminals, or murderers, or anyone, anywhere. Justyn made her promise not to disclose any info unless she knew exactly to whom she was speaking with, and then only if it was a direct chat or in an email. Mary promised, mainly to make him feel better and secondly because she was now so tired she could hardly hold her eyes open. She asked Justyn if he would be mad if she took a nap and then later done what ever she needed to do, and Justyn assured her it was ok. She headed upstairs and got dressed for bed and climbed in it very quickly, she was asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. Justyn left for work at 6:30 as he did every day and figured Mary would probably call him around lunch to let him know she was up. It was nearly 4 pm when Mary awoke and she quickly took a shower and headed downstairs to get some coffee and to start supper before Justyn got home. She was sure he would probably be mad since she had not offered to call him all day. Now she wanted to make sure he had a nice supper and maybe he would forget about her being on the computer all night. She was remembering how nice it was to chat with all those nice people in the chat room and she was sure there was no way any of them could be a criminal or murderer or anything other then just a nice person like herself. Justyn was always being overly protective as he thought she was a little "too friendly" towards everyone she met. Heck the truth was, she had never met a stranger or a "bad" person in her life. As she was sitting the table, the phone rang, it was her mother calling to ask how her birthday went and to find what great gift Justyn had got her this year. She quickly explained that she had got the new computer and that she had actually stayed up all night on it and that she slept all day and had not been up long at all. Her mother was worse then Justyn, she was complaining as to how people on the internet are only convicts sitting in prison with nothing better to do, then to find out as much as they about everyone, and then have their friends go out and rob them or worse, even kill them. Her mother knew this was true as she had heard it from some of the ladies at the church that had heard of it firsthand from a women that lost her son to a murderer that had found him through the information he had posted on the internet. Mary assured her mother she was more careful then that and her and Justyn had already discussed the matter and she was not giving out any information at all, she told her mother she was even using an alias instead of her real name. Mary didn't like to lie to her mother, but sometimes she didn't know when to quit and step down off her soapbox. They exchanged goodbyes as Mary told her she needed to get Justyn's supper ready. After hanging up with her mother, Mary finished getting supper ready and started putting it on the table, in anticipation of Justyn being home at his regular time. She quickly checked the time on the clock in the kitchen, 4:40 pm, Justyn would be coming in the door in about 7 minutes and she had everything ready including his coffee. Mary wasn't really hungry, but knew she would have to eat as if she had been up and doing stuff since about noon. She figured she would explain to Justyn that she was so busy she had failed to call him and by the time she realized it, he was already on his way home from work. She ran into the computer room and just stared at the computer for a second, it was as if it was calling to her, wanting her to come and play for a while. She laughed outloud as she thought of how silly this was and then she turned and headed back to the dining room. She was just sitting down as Justyn drove into the garage, and then as she poured the cups full of coffee from the Carafe' she heard him come in through the kitchen to the dining room. "And to what, do I owe the pleasure of this beautiful dinner to", he asked. Mary lied a little and said, "For getting me the roses and the computer for my birthday yesterday". Mary quickly kissed him, before he had a chance to respond. Justyn wrapped his arms about her and squeezed her in his gentle but loving way and thought how thankful he was to have such a loving and caring wife as Mary. When they seperated from the hug and kiss, they sat down and proceeded with their dinner. As they ate, they made small conversation, which included Mary explaining how she had failed to call him since she was so busy with the house after she had awoke at noon, and that she would make sure it wouldn't happen again. Justyn reassured her that it was ok and that actually he was so busy he was ashamed to say he had not noticed that she had not called till almost quitting time. They both laughed as it seemed funny how after going through the same routine for years that one day of change could actually feel so great and wonderful. It was strange but yet nice to have been "not" in touch for a whole day, they both agreed. After supper Mary did up the dishes as Justyn retired to his den to get some work done that he had brought home, and to catch a little TV before bed time rolled around. Mary almost set a speed record for doing the dishes and she wanted to get back on the computer as soon as possible. She was on her way to the computer room, when Justyn asked her if there was any coffee left. Mary hurried into the kitchen and carried the Carafe' into the den, sitting it on his desk next to his cup, she said, " there is still about 4 cups in here, darling, I will just leave it for you, as I am thinking of maybe messing with the computer for a little bit before bed time if that is ok with you?". Justyn told her it was ok and he was soon encompassed with his work again. Mary was in the computer room as quickly as she could get there and had it turned on and connected to the internet in record time.
