It was Sunday, 4 March 2006 and two days before the birthday of my nephew, Leander, who was killed in a car accident in October 1995. I had wanted to do a photo tribute in his memory but remembered that my sister had said that when, in the past, that I had reflected on such matters that it always made family members feel uncomfortable. Many would sometimes say "Why do youy want tWhich would bring to mind when just after the New Year of 2006 a neice would telephone me asking that I delete a 1992 Easter With The Family webpage that I had spent several weeks creating in celebration of Easter 2005 and that featured images of she and her family with text pertaining to my Easter of 1992 in Southern Maryland. When in the process of working on the project, last April, I would send a rough draft to her asking if she had any problems with it, which spoke very highly of her. She said 'No.' and that it was OK. Though Easter, Over the Years, is still under construction I would complete the Easter 1992 page in time for Easter of 2005.
When on 6 January 2006 that my neice would ask that I delete the page, citing yhat it may could cause problems with her job, though very pleasant on the phone once I'd hang up I'd rant '... as a black man, folks think nothing of demanding that I rewrite my history and that I not speak the truth about my black life. |
