The first question I am often asked is "Have you been heavy all of you life?" My answer to that is no. As a young child I was very active and ate a fairly healthy diet. I was involved in camps, dance and a variety of other activies. My mom was a single mother and I often stayed with my Grandparents while mom was at work. While there I tried a variety of healthy foods and learned to enjoy them. Two of my favorite snacks were apples and carrotts.

age of eleven it was hard to convince the restaurants that I was still young enough for the children's menu. |

Another strange thing that occured was at the age of nine my period occured for the first time. I remember the doctor being concerned about this and doing some blood work, but to this day I do not know the results.
By fifth grade I stopped growing. At 5'5" I reached the height that I am now. It was a strange feeling to already be full into puberty when most of the other girls hadn't even started to think about training bras yet.
It was at this time I remember first becoming conscious of my weight. Where the other girls were still stick thin I was developing a women's body. I was very much into ballet and I remember looking in the mirror at the dance studio and wondering what was wrong with me. |
