.Oct 10: We leave Myrtle Beach and travel a little over 200 miles to the other end of South Carolina.  Arriving in Aiken we went to the planned campground and found no one around but that was just as well because the Pine Acres campground was really horrible.  RV's so close that you may not be able to open your awning.  Really unlevel ground and the two sites that were empty were too small for our motorhome.
We turned around and went to Aiken RV Campground.  Also not the greatest of campgrounds but at $235 for a month, which includes all hookups plus cable TV, it is quite a bargain and it gives us an opportunity to become familiar with the area.

Below is their deck with me, Rose and Guy.

and you will see Johanne, Rose and Guy.
.Oct 09: Our other reason for staying at Myrtle Beach was to visit our good friends (and former boss) Guy and Rose.  They live a good 45 minute ride from the Myrtle Beach State Park
They invited us out for conversation and a great dinner. They have a nice new house in a golf club community..
.Aiken: During our stay here we have driven around and explored the city of Aiken, the shopping and the housing.
Over all we are impressed with this location and will put it on our list as a potential future anchor point.
.Oct 20: On this pleasant fall day, Johanne and I went to the Western Carolina State Fair, just two miles down the road from us.  It has mostly carnival rides, a midway, food stands and so on.  Also a craft building. But, after the Eastern States Expo this was more like a church carnival than a state fair.
The weather has been pretty good.  Only one day of rain out of ten and mostly clear blue skies and nice temps.
.    The layout of the streets in Aiken is quite unique and very attractive.  In the central part of Aiken all the roads are divided by a wide parkade between the east and west lanes and north and south lanes.
One of the prettiest sites in Aiken is tree lined South Boundary Road.shown below.
.Oct 27: On this warm and pretty autumn Saturday in South Carolina Johanne and I took a ride in the country to Aiken State Natural Area and had a nice walk in the woods and around a couple of lakes and even a nice campground.
After this exercise we drove into town and had our first PIZZA since we left Connecticut at a place called Ferrando's.  Not bad for a southern restaurant.
