Hitomi Kanzaki Mystic Moon

Hitomi is your average Japanese school student. She runs track, and even has a crush on the team's captain, Amano-Sempai -_^. She is 15 and has a father, mother, and a younger brother. 'Hitomi' means pupil or iris (as in the "color" of the eye).

Van Slanzar de Fanel Fanelia

Van is the hot-headed king of Fanelia. At first he seems like a very cold, unlikable character, but as the story goes on, he becomes more friendly and open. His only 'family' is a cat-girl named Merle. Van is 15, his birthday is on April 12th. His biological family consists of Goau (father and former king who died twelve years ago), Varie (mother and queen who disappeared searching for Van's older brother ten years ago), brother (disappeared during royal coronation rites ten years ago. During the anime's development, Van was initially named Dai Ginga (homonymous with "Great Silver River" or "Great Galaxy" in Japanese.) Also during the developement Van had one red right eye and one left green eye instead of two red eyes. (The intended idea was to hide his left green eye with his long front locks of hair for the entire beginning of the series until a pivotal moment in the story. This plot device designed to reveal Van's mixed ancestry was abandoned in favor of a far more dramatic approach.) No wonder he has so much hair!

Merle Fanelia

Merle is a cute cat-girl who follows Van everywhere. She is very protective of him because he is her only family. She is 13 and was born in Irini (a town in a region of Fanelia, Gaea.) She likes to annoy Hitomi and steal her things. >^._.^<

Allen Crusade Schezar (VIII) Asturia

Allen is a Knight Caeli and he also pilots the Scherazade. He has a basic knight's personality, good looks (but way too much hair), and great sowrdsmanship. He is 21, and his family consists of an absent father, deceased mother, and a long-lost sister. During the initial development of Escaflowne, he was named Allen Baado.

Millerna Sara Aston Asturia

Millerna is the youngest princess of Asturia and is hopelessly in love with Allen, even though she is already betrothed to Dryden. She has a good knowledge of medicine. Millerna is 15, and her family comsists of Grava Aston (father and king of Asturia), Therese (mother and queen of Asturia who passed away), Marlene (sister and first-born princess who passed away after marrying into the Freid royal family and bearing a child), Eries (sister and second-born princess).

Dilandau Albatou Zeibach

Dilandau is, in a word, insane. He commands the Dragonslayers and does not take lightly to insult and injury from enemies. He pilots the Alseides, in which he enjoys burning many things *_*. Dilandau is 15. In Yuzuru Yashiro's shoujo manga version of Escaflowne, Dilandau is unabashedly portrayed as female -- as to whether the anime's Dilandau is male or female, the answer is yes ....

Folken Lacour de Fanel Zaibach

Folken is thestrategist of Dornkirk. He coordinates and carries out Dornkirk's plans as well develop new technologies for the Zaibach empire. Folken invented the stealth cloak, and he believes that by fighting, Zaibach can bring an end to all war. He has a mechanical right arm (which in my opinion looks really cool) and a 70's style hair cut.

Dryden Fassa Asturia

Dryden is the charming know-it-all merchant betrothed to Millerna. He is 21 years old, and his family consists of Meiden (father and business magnate).

Yukari Uchida Mystic Moon

Yukari is Hitomi's best friend and the manager of the track team. Like Allen and Amano, Millerna and Yukari (Hitomi's friends and rivals on both worlds) also share the same voice in the television series. In the movie, S�ra and Yukari share the same voice.

Amano-Sempai Mystic Moon

Amano is a national-record-holding sprinter and all-around friendly person, he gained popularity among his peers at Kamakura-Kita High School. Amano share more than eerie similarity in countenance with Allen; they also share the same voice. In episode 24, we also discover that they have the same height and weight.
