Discipline
Discipline consists solely of "time-outs". In a "time-out" a child is asked to sit on a sofa or bench for an age appropriate length of time (around 30 seconds for young toddlers up to a couple of minutes for older pre-schoolers) under the supervision of an adult.
A child may be asked to take a time-out in the following situations :
- Any act of aggression towards another child or caregiver (hitting, pushing, biting)
- Repeated violations of important safety rules (standing on a chair, throwing toys, etc.)
We believe that "time-outs" are appropriate only for toddlers and older. Older infants may be reminded of the rules in a firm voice tone, and gently prevented from continuing the offending act (e.g. if an infant is repeatedly throwing a toy, the toy will be removed from the infant).
