This chapter continues the description of chapter 21 about the New World telling us more details about the new way of life and the differences between people who will take part in this more advanced stage of human existence and the ones who will not. Chapter 22 also stresses the divinity of Jesus, which means some of it may well have been added to the rest of the Revelation later, because at the time of the prophet John there was no such doctrine.
Main features of the New Age are: absence of destructive tendencies, as predicted in chapter 20, prosperity for everyone and a loving and caring attitude, symbolized by the "water of life". Humanity will also have achieved a more enlightened and spiritually advanced way of thinking, symbolized by the "Tree of Life" according to the tradition of the Kabala.
Prosperity, emotional and spiritual progress will depend on each other: The Tree of Life is planted next to the water of life, because it needs this water to grow and it also yields fruit that can be harvested every month.
