We the ELECTORATE
California Secretary of State Bruce McPherson says California has one of the lowest voter participation in the country. Low voter turnout stems from poor service. High voter turnout for May 3, 2005 mail-in election, higher than elections conducted at polling places, proves it. Polls and registrar's office are infested with mean people. Please don't listen to them or their defenders. Please fire them outright and let's make elections the joyous occasions they should be but aren't. Let those who ask for me specificially at the polls and those who complain to me of poor service there when I walk precincts sign this petition and be counted. Why put up with mean people? We don't owe them. We don't need them. Let's not get friends or other good people in trouble, just crummy ones. Let's be the ones to complain away mean people.
Mail-in elections would save us the pain of facing mean people at polls and registrar's offices (besides dropping ballots off to make sure they arrive) Please let's have mail-in elections in all California and nationwide counties so we can avoid snooty people and still vote. We need to receive our ballots and information in a more timely manner to get our votes in and counted.
CALIFORNIA MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES ACT
Let's spend Prop 63 money where it's needed, where it counts. We need effective legal services to defend consumers, not the state, against punishment and unwanted mental health treatment. Other programs mentioned at meetings already exist. Enable honest lawyers and give them more strength to help us win. We need bang for our bucks. We need recourse and our accusers need accountability. Involuntary kept and treated? Denied access to public amenities? Know someone who is? Sign here and be heard.
SJSU Aquatic Center Users
CSU Chancellor Chuck Reed ordered CSU to get rid of mean people by firing them outright. Let's please do the job and do it right. It's possible to fire them immediately. It's been done before. Start with Caryn Murray Recreation Facilities Manager and Beckie Harper Aquatic Center Coordinator, both listed in SJSU's directory as Student Union Inc. Even campus police hate them and hold their noses when answering their calls. Please listen to us when we complain about poor service.
There are people on campus we need to be rid of, some of which we can't readily identify because they don't wear name tags or because we don't get a good look at them and their coworkers refuse to identify them for us. Let employees wear large name or number badges or patches readable from a distance and make them readily identifiable to complainers. Don't let them hide or cover their tags. Then they'd toe the line. Nonprofits, government agencies or businesses spending their money paying off budget-busting lawsuits would think before hiring or retaining mean people.
To San Jose Streets and Traffic Dept
Many of our street lights are burned out or almost. There are too many to name them all. Why not just change all the lights before they too burn out and we're left in the dark? We also need traffic signals retimed and working correctly. Please fix.
BROADCAST TV and radio. Many times the station only reaches part of its market. The rest gets poor reception if at all and often requires cable TV just to get regular broadcast stations we're supposed to get without the expense of Cable. The FCC tells me there's nothing they can do about it. They been "working on it" in every bar since before I was born. Please mandate that broadcast stations reach their whole market and improve reception.
