I found this interesting website where you can
choose any of ABBA's hit songs. Click on it and then the
lyrics will be displayed, followed by the music. All you
need to do is sit back and sing-along like karaoke. A good
chance to practise ABBA's songs before your next visit to
karaoke.

I have joined the
Daily
Photo Blog (DPB) family! By joining this group, I have
committed myself to posting a photo everyday on my blog, that I
called
Subang Jaya Daily Photo. The condition for this group is the
photos are taken in the city where I live. Thus I have
posted photos of Klang Valley, Melaka and some of the places
that I visited.
Journey to the West
of China
Before I left China, for 2 weeks (3 - 19 Sept 2007) I went
on the road alone heading West of China,
covering provinces like Xi'an and part of Xinjiang.
It is one of the most memorable trip for me. It was a
courageous act to go all on my own to the west - as it is
considered unsafe territories! Through my journey, I met
up with strangers who later became my travel companions.
Check out my travelogue to the West of China
here! Or visit Xiao Wei's photo blog
here.
You can also read
an article about travel within China, published in UK's The
Guardian on 2 Feb, 2008 by a journalist named John O'Mahony whom
we met during our farmstay at Turpan, and view his
video about this part of China.
Seen here is the
resplendant Karakul Lake, ringed by magnificent snow-capped
mountains.
One can rent yurt for overnight stay here.
Left Shanghai
already!
I have been in Shanghai
for 6 months! Time flies real fast. Got myself a bicycle
now. Yah, I am one of those millions riding a bike around town!!
Planning to join a biking group soon to explore more of Shanghai
with like-minded people. The bike is also my vehicle to go
around town with my camera. I could just stop anytime,
anywhere to take photos of interesting objects ~ which I will
post to share with all of you!
This is a 3-month Wesak Celebration that my
friends and I are organizing. There will be talks and
metta communion in various centres in Klang Valley. We
hope to reach out to 10,000 people with our tagline
"Reach In, to Reach Out". It means in order to reach out
to others, let's first cultivate ourselves. We encourage
people to write down the good deeds they do in our "100
Days Good Heart" diary and also to join us for weekly
Metta Communion on every Thursday at 8.30 - 10.00
pm.

Old Buddies
Get-together!
We have
known one another for almost 30 years!!!! This year we made it
a point to meet-up again!!
I took the chance to
introduce Asia Cafe to Chia Hui, Mike, Siew Ling & Tuck
Soon. It's the latest hang-out contemporary food court smacked
in the middle of SS15. As it was a Sat nite, the crowd
was bigger. In fact, there was a traffic jam when we decided
to adjourn to McD after our hefty meal!
Our main topic of
discussion on that evening was Julian's weight loss!
Since our previous get-together in March 2005, almost a year
ago, he has lost 20kgs!!!! Amazing, huh? When he told
us, I was doing a quick mental calculation of how much I would
weigh if I were to lose similar weight!!! Mmmmmm....I truly
envy him!! But of course, he has been very discipline and went
through regular exercise at the gym and healthy food intake to
achieve this. Sigh!! Am I up to follow suit??? Or am I just
going to standby and see how our friend continues to keep
fit??? As they say, the ball is at my feet
now.......
CNY
Celebration in My Hometown - Melaka
As
usual, CNY is celebrated in a merry, loud and bright way where
I stay - that's in the older part of town, known as Temple
Street. Parallel to our street is the weekend pedestrian night
market street known as Jonker Walk. As the clock struck twelve
last night, which is CNY's eve, the young and old hit the
street to join in the merry-making! We saw the lion dance,
food stalls selling vegetarian dishes bustling with business,
pay our respects to the Goddess at a nearby temple, and of
course enjoy some street side food, e.g. fish balls, mua
chee and fried ice cream. We had a great time
ushering the New Year on the street with the
crowd!
Annual
Reunion
It was another one of our semi-annual
get-together. A wonderful evening for us 4 to get together to
chow, catch up on each other's lives and laugh!! In short,
enjoy our friendships!
As usual in Jan, it'd
would be the celebration of Judy and Chee Ching's
birthday. Both Verna & I would celebrate their month
with them. This time, we had our Nyonya
cuisine dinner at the Peranakan
House in Taman SEA. We update each other on our holiday
and of new happenings....ready to move on to another job, life
as mothers, wives, singles, traveling, holidays, and yah we
make a plan to go for holiday together!! Wonder when that
would take place...with all our devotion to work and
family....it may just be a wish but I hope we could make it
come true someday! It's been awhile since we 4 hang out for a
couple of days together!! We carried on our chat at Min
Tien's Food Court with the accompaniment of soursop shaved ice
with fruit cocktail! What a sweet way to end the evening!
My
newborn niece
My little niece Ying Ying was
delivered to us on Aug '05. The left pix was taken on Dec '05,
when she was 4-month old. She was 3-day old when I took the
pix on the right. Mmmm....don't you think she has changed so
much?
Cradled
in Buddha's Arms
Attended an
album launch by a Buddhist music group called i-gemz
last weekend. It was an album that many of us who have sang
their songs have been waiting for.
I was captivated by
the song called Brahma of My Heart - which the composer
dedicate to her Dad. It reminded me of my own Dad and makes me
miss him a lot. Dad, wherever you are now, I wish you
well. I hope you have a good rebirth and hope you know we all,
your children love and miss you a lot.
Another song
that's significant to me is My Beautiful Friend. We
have been singing this song frequently at BLC.
In fact
I have chosen it to be my funeral song. Funeral & Death
seem to be such a taboo issue. However after understanding the
issue of death (that's the benefit of dealing with MBCS),
death is no longer an unlucky subject to be discussed. I hope
this song will be sung by my close friends and family if I
were to leave this world one day. I hope to leave as a
beautiful friend, who brings joy to friends in a warm and
generous way - as stated in the song. And when one day I were
to leave this world, I would be remembered as such by those
who know and love me. Isn't that a beautiful way to leave my
life?
I
didn't realize that the little section on my hometown, Melaka,
has actually been visited by foreigners who are planning to
visit Melaka. Wow, that means it would be a good
platform for me to share my personal opinion of my hometown
and promote it to visitors.
Here's a recent email that
I have received:
Hello,
I
am reading your wonderful website about Melaka. It's
great. I will be visiting Melaka Dec.31 2005 to
Jan.2,2006 and I would like to join a Nyonya
cooking class. Do you know of any
available?
Thank you so
much for your time and your great
website!

An open
air pedestrian mall in Melaka's well-known Jonker
Street.
Have any of you been to the famous Jonker Walk in
Melaka? It is a popular tourist spot since the past 2
years. Jonker Walk is Melaka's version of Bintang
Walk.
In Bintang Walk, you will find upscale
cafes, like Starbucks & Coffee Beans; or alfresco dining
on its walkway. However in Jonker Walk, you will find a
wide range of souvenirs & famous Malaccan food lining the
famous street, once called Jonker Street.
Jonker
Street is officially known as Jalan Hang Jebat now. It's
previous name was Jalan Gelanggang. Among the Chinese
living in the area, it is known in Hokkien as Koay Teoh Koay
(Hokkien version of Chee Chiong Kai i.e. KL's Petaling
Street). This is the street where cock fights were used
to be held, according to my Dad. Among antique collectors, it
is known as Antique Street. There are many shops selling
antiques on this street.
Come weekends (starting
at 6pm), the street is turned into a pedestrian mall, with
traders peddling their wares and hawkers dishing out the
famous Malaysian delicacies like nyonya laksa, cendol, kuihs,
radish cakes.
Chua Soon Hup e-Grocery
Shop
I have created a website for my Dad's Grocery Shop
"Chua Soon Hup" in Melaka.
On
this website, we introduced the products available from our
shop. To add value, we have included recipes that could be dished out
using our products.
You are welcome to visit our
e-Grocery Shop and please send us your
feedback on how we can further improve it to bring better
services to our customers.
Interested to go to Melaka? Want to know where the
good food is? Where to stay?
I have started a page on my
hometown to share tips with friends about the Historical City of
Melaka. I will gradually add more links and information to
this page.
For a
start, I would like to introduce you to the authentic Nyonya or
Straits Chinese food that is widely known in Melaka. Check out
the Nyonya Restaurant named Makko that I recommend to all of
you! Pasti Sedap!!
My first attempt in the Toastmasters Humorous Speech
Contest took place in 1996. It was a lovely surprise for me
when I wont the 1st prize with this witty piece of speech about myself.
