A schematic diagram represents the connections of all components.
Op-amp schematic diagram is usually available from its manufacturer data-sheet. It also includes information like frequency response range chart & distortion graph chart. It is vital to use suitable type of components so as to enhance performance.
For polarized capacitors, use low impedance, low ESR, low leakage, 35Vdc and above type. For coupling capacitors (without polarity), polystyrene or polypropylene types are preferred for warmer sound. Teflon type sounds better. For capacitor shorting to ground, ceramic-disc type is preferred.
for volume control, log. type potentiometer is usually used.
