Elections 2004 USA

George Bush
Howard Dean

More than twenty years ago, Howard Dean turned his back on Wall Street and went to medical school so he could help people.

He moved to Burlington with his wife, started a family, and raised two children while running a family medical practice.

He got started in local politics by building a bike path to improve his community.

He served in the state legislature and was elected Lt. Governor. He became the Governor of Vermont and was re-elected five times.

As Governor he stood up for what was right. He balanced the budget 11 years in a row and created a rainy day fund for the state. He brought health care to 99% of the children and 96% of adults in Vermont. He expanded prescription drug benefits for seniors. He lowered child abuse rates and raised graduation rates. He created 20% more jobs, cut taxes, raised the minimum wage. And he protected more than 470,000 acres of wild land.

He opposed No Child Left Behind - the largest unfunded mandate in the history of education. He stood up against both of George Bush's reckless tax cuts. He opposed the President's misguided war in Iraq. And he did that when too many Democrats were going along with the President's agenda.

As a candidate for President, he has transformed the way politics is done in our country. He's shown that there is a way for the people to take their government back from the corporate interests through the power of their small donations. Hundreds of thousands of people have come back into the political process-- or participated for the first time-- because of Howard Dean's vision.

That is what Howard Dean has done so far. And it is only the beginning.
