Due respect was paid to this achievement prior to kick-off. A number of Everton legends were paraded on the pitch and there were two rousing renditions of the club's new songs.
Then came the main event. Everton gave first Premiership starts to Richard Wright, Li Tie and Wayne Rooney. Rooney played a major part in the opening goal. He layed the ball off to Mark Pembridge on the edge of the box and the Welsh international slammed the ball past Kasey Keller into the Tottenham net.
But Spurs have been a bit of a bogey side for the Blues in recent years and this proved to be the case again!
Rodrigo made his Premiership debut when he stepped off the substitute's bench and four minutes later The Blues were level. Tomasz Radzinski ran down the right and turned inside the Spurs defender before beating the 'keeper at his near post.
Everton probably deserved a win, but at the end of the day a draw wasn't too bad of a result.
